“Lovely hotel with great staff and great breakfast!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

I stayed at the Gresham Metrople on Sat 4 February. Overall I had a very pleasant experience. The hotel itself is a very old building so that can't be helped. I stayed in a twin room and was very impressed to see the toiletries in the room. Along with the usual shower gel, there was soap, shoe shine, show cap, and body lotion. I have stay in various 4 star hotels all over the world and found that some of them didn't supply such a variety. I asked for a quiet room and got it so slept like a baby! All the staff were extremely friendly. I found Rachel on the front desk to be particularly friendly and ever so helpful. The breakfast was delicious with orange juice that you would actually drink, unlike other hotels I stayed at where it was definately watered down. Breakfast is served from 8-12 on Sun so you are not rushed out of the hotel at the crack of dawn. We went for breakfast at 11:20 and I was a bit apprehensive that it would be dried up with not much left..I needn't have worried. It was so fresh and even when I was helping myself, more fresh eggs etc was being put out. The residents bar opened until 3 and we were offed a last drink at 3am which again is great as we could totally relax and not feel we were being pushed out. Location is excellent as was the price we paid. The only negatives I have is that the lift is very slow there was a fridge in the room but it didn't work and tea/coffee would also be another nice addition, but not the end of the world and would not stop me from booking this hotel again.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back of the hotel are quieter

“Terrible Experience!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

I have to say this has been the worst hotel experience I've had yet. The hotel is not cheap, I payed €80 euro for one night and I had to spend the night sleeping in all my clothes the room was so cold. There was only a very light summer duvet on the bed for it being a cold winter. The shower was cold, and with terrible water pressure and the breakfast was very poor. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone...I know of much better hotels you can get for a lot less money. These are basic requirements that this hotel did not provide.

“Great Location with a view of the river.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

We stayed one night here in Cork. Great location in front of the river and just over the bridge is the bustling main shopping area of Cork. 15 minute easy drive to Blarney Castle.

Staff was friendly and helpful with directions and recommendations.

Nice Restaurant/Bar right in the hotel. Many restaurants/pubs/shops around the hotel.

Room was sized small-moderate, but quiet and clean with beautiful views over the river.

Beds "average European mattress". Firm, linens, beddings and pillows all comfortable, but not upscale. No pillowtop here.

Wi fi in room. We left too early for breakfast.

“Brilliant!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

We spent a lovely weekend in Cork, which was even more special because of the location and hospitality of the Metropole. The hotel, staff and pool were brilliant, the room was on the small size, and a bit noisy by the road, but we hope to return one day (with ear plugs). Breakfast was limited but available until 12 noon which was great after a late night. The staff were all lovely, friendly and very helpful.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the river are quieter, pay extra to have larger room

“great staff and location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

I stayed in the metropole for two nights over thr new year wityh my boyfriend.I asked the night before i arrived if i could check in early and they said they would do their best to accomodate me.On arrival they ahd the room ready for me at 11am as I was getting ready for a wedding which was really helpful!
nice late weekend breakfast to 12pm which was great following a wedding the day before!
i didnt use the bar but all the staff were lovely, nice comfy accomdation, not luxurious but clean and cosy.rooms were quite warm,we had to open the windows but that was fine, not a complaint. To use the car park, you have to pull into the loading bay outside the hotel, quickly run into receptiona dn get a pass for the public car park which is around the corner,I did find this a little stressful as i dont know cork city and the one way streets but found it none the less and will know for future.I would recommend this hotel to others and would stay again if i had to stay in cork city for another event.Very close to walk into the shops and restaurants also so location is ideal!
