“This is not a 4 star hotel”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

My first time in this hotel and my last. I booked into this hotel late in the evening, i was working in cork city that day and had to head to Mallow the next day which was ideal as this hotel is on the mallow road.
I went to the bar and order the red thai curry with boiled rice, it was terrible, must have been reheated as it was produce very quickly. I couldn't even cut into the rice with a knife, i didn't eat it or complain, i was tireed after a long day (my mistake, i should have complained).
I read a book for a while in the lobby area off the bar and headed to be around 9:30pm. My room was on the 4th floor and while trying to sleep i could hear people outside the hotel chatting whilst having a smoke at the entrance to the hotel, 4 floors below. I got up to check if my window was open, but it wasn't. After twisting and turning for a hour i eventually got sleep until i heard somebody knocking at my door.
I saw that it was 2:30am and chose not to answer the door, the person knocked 4 times and then my hotel phone rang, it was reception telling me to answer the door, that the waiter was outside with the drink i ordered.
I got out of bed and told te waiter that i did not order any drink and he simply grunted and walked away. I spent another while trying to get back to sleep. The next morning i was up and checking out before 8:00am as i had to be in mallow at 9. The woman i reception asked me if i had a nice stay, so i told her no, and explained what had happened.
All she could say was sorry and i hope to have you stay with us again (what a robotic response) i told her i would never stay here again, nor would i recommend this hotel to anyone. she made no attempt of trying compensating me at all, and charge me the full 69euro for room only rate.
This hotel is not in anyway a 4 star hotel, stay clear, trust me!

“would not return”

First the positive - nice bar and restaurant area. Music starting at 10pm in the lobby. Our Bailey's cheesecake was very good although the mushroom soup was more like mushroom gravy.

The not so positive - when we arrived, the parking lot was completely full (and it's pretty big). We parked in the loading dock area with some other cars. Nothing like parking 5 mins away by the dumpsters to make you feel welcome. There is only one elevator to go up to the rooms so the wait was sometimes very long. Decor upstairs is much different that the public areas - dark and outdated. The room was small, the wallpaper was bubbling and peeling (not in the corners either, right in the middle of the wall). The carpet felt thin and in need of replacement. The countertops in the bathroom seemed cheap, as did tile floor in the bathroom. Whenever I turned on the hot water in the sink, first it would not start, then it would sputter uncontrollably, startling me everytime. The water pressure in the shower was so low (even turned all the way up) I couldn't wash my hair. How does any of this equate to a 4 STAR hotel?!?! It doesn't...truthfully, this is more like a 2-3 star hotel (at least based on the room quality).

If you go, get your expectations straight and you won't be disappointed as I sorely was. This place is not as advertised...

“Everything is just a little tired”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

Stayed in the Silver Springs on Friday, 20th October for the sixth time. The greating by reception staff was polite and efficient. We were given room 403 which is on the side of the hotel that faces the river. First time we had stayed on this side of the hotel and it is much nosier than other rooms we have stayed in. Although I did not have trouble sleeping I was aware of work carrying on all night. The standard of the rooms was normal for this hotel, coffee, tea and a biscuit, lucky my wife didnt want one as there was only one available. Bathroom was clean but the basin taps were appaling. Difficult to turn off and on two occassions I almost flooded the bathroom. Basin plug hole chrome had pealed and didnt look very appealing.

Room service for dinner was good, food was tasty and service quick and efficient even though there was a major event on at the hotel. Breakfast the following morning was also good and delivered to the room on time.

Overall a pleasing stay although for the price paid €105 I felt that the hotel felt a little tired and worn out. I would be tempted to go with one of the other chains who offer a cheaper price without the room service.

“Short and sweet”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

Unfortunately, I was only here for one night and that included an evening function in the adjoining conference centre, so my experience was somewhat limited. However, what I found was a really welcoming hotel from the minute I arrived at reception to leaving the next morning.
The room was very large, two double beds, with all the facilities I needed. My one criticsm was that the shower was set up in wet room style and a lot of water finished up on other areas of the bathroom floor making them dangerous. A small screen would solve this problem. At times the room was a little too warm for my liking and I could not see any controls to adjust.
Although I only used the restaurant for breakfast this was plentyful and comfortable. Again, I only used the bar for afternoon tea, and that was, also, a pleasant experience.

Room Tip: Avoid the third floor if there is a function on in the conference centre as entry is from that floor...

“Convenient family lodging at the Silver Springs”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

Myself and the family have stayed at the Silver Springs a few times at this stage and I want to complement the hotel for a very nice experience overall. We got an excellent rate for a family room for 2 adults and 2 kids, really good deal with a massive breakfast thrown in. The room was plenty large enough for our needs, with a flat screen TV (limited number of channels) and wi-fi included. One minor quibble was that our bathroom was designed for a disabled person, which is all well and good, but not when the sink is only 2' high and there was no storage for toiletries whatsoever. The foyer downstairs was suitable for families with youngish kids to relax in the evening with a drink without feeling you were in a bar. The leisure centre is a tough walk up the top of the hill (just drive up, it's easier) and the pool there is a little dated but adequate. You really need a car to stay here as it's too far to walk into the city centre.
