I always say that I'll write a hotel review after a stay but I never seem to get around to it, however my boyfriend and I were so diasappointed with this hotel I just had to warn other people about it!!
Where do I begin!
We were greeted with a lovely foyer (don't be fooled). We were booked in for a saturday and sunday night (a christmas present we received). This hotel needs a major revamp...asap! Long narrow corridors with dirty carpets, lopsided signs on doors, the smell of smoke throughout the corridors and an elevator we were afraid to take a second time!
We were expecting a double room but got a very cramped triple room..musty smelling, cold during the eveing and suffocatingly warm at night (we had to leave windows open for the night..it was january!). There was an ancient maybe 16inch tv sitting on the desk with no remote and a few fairly fuzzy channels, a grungy looking carpet, little holes and dents in the walls, no iron and the "tea/coffee making facilities" consisted of a dirty kettle and a dusty tray of cups tucked away in a press under the desk. The bathtub was filthy, as were windowsills. Plus the doors were so light we couldn't get a wink at night with the noise on the corridor.we actually left the tv on low volume for the 2 nights to try and drown out the noise!!
We went into the restaurant (Quills) and soon after sitting I could notice a few tables around the room looking quite impatient. The prices were crazy considering the service and the atmosphere...17 euro for a burger, 16 euro for a mixed grill...no daily specials. We were sitting for 35 minutes before we got our salad starters! Food was tasty enough but not one of the dishes came out as described..ie burger had no egg, steak was med rare rather than med well, chicken ceasar salad had no chicken and no ceasar dressing..a garlic dressing, rocket, spinach, red lettuce, cheddar cheese and hot rashers instead...I kid you not!! Plates piled up on tables...ok enough of that.
The first night we couldn't even go into the bar because there was a social on which crowded out the bar and foyer, on our second night we got into the bar a few in there but we got the feeling that if you weren't over 60 and you weren't in there every wekend..you weren't welcome!
Icing on the cake the girl at reception tried to charge us for drinks "that had been charged to the room via room service"...we didn't even know they had room service.
All in all a real dump of a place from what we saw, maybe the pool was nice..we didn't bother. Staff not overly friendly and another thing that crossed my mind...theres no way this hotel could meet fire/health and safety regulations..all glass/wood windows and doors, ancient carpets and cardboard doors!
Steer clear of this place!!!
