“NO NO NO”

Had the misfortune of staying here recently on a business trip. The stale smell that greeted me on arrival at the reception should have made me run for the door to escape. but I gave the benefit of the doubt. My mistake. I had asked, on booking, for a quiet room as i had an early start the following day.

the "quiet room" i received was directly over the nighclub in the hotel, which was in full swing. Leading onto an outside beer garden whcih was right below my window, the noise was deafening. After a half hour i could take no more as there was no way sleep was going to be achieved. I contacted the reception, a helpful night porter who was the only bring light in this experience. However salvation was not to be as the next room i was offered was freezing cold with no working telephone even though i had booked a wake up call for the next morning at 6.30am. In addition the room was directly opposite the busiest pub in the town which was rocking with customers spilling out onto the street below my window. Not the brightest room swop available. DUH

the next room was also freezing and had NO TELEPHONE AT ALL. where do they get them from.....Offering an alternative to a customer involves either a room of similar or better standard...not one worse than the previous...a bit of common sense would not have gone amiss.

I had booked for two nights. Needless to say i didnt stay the second. checking out the following morning i paid my bill for the one night and made clear my reasons for cancelling the second night. thinking that was the end of it i booked into a much better hotel in the town. However on the train home i received a phone call (there are working phones in the hotel after all - WOW) to ask me did i wish to extend my two night stay for a third night. WHAT???????

I was then told that the payment hadnt been taken for my stay and it was only after a few words that the penny finally dropped...

NEVER AGAIN. If you are looking for a budge (and I mean budget) hotel then maybe this might suffice. Otherwise go somewhere else - anywhere else............

Room Tip: Dont think there are any good rooms

“Noisy, Unhelpful and Rude”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

Myself and my boyfriend stayed in Queens for one night on the 1st of January 2012. We chose this hotel as it was listed as accepting one for all vouchers. On verifying this information with reception prior to booking, we were advised by phone and email that they did in fact accept these vouchers. We had read reviews that the hotel could be noisy. This is an understatement. The music started about 10 o'clock and the whole room was shaking, to such an extent that you could still hear the music over the television. The street noise also added to the noise levels. We wanted an early night after New Years, this was impossible and we could not even attempt to go asleep until about 3.30 am. After finally falling asleep, we got quite a shock when the fire alarm started going off. No-one rang to say it was a false alarm or explain why the alarm had gone off. On check out the next morning, without even mentioning the events of the night before we encountered problems straightaway. The receptionist who was unable to swipe the voucher in her credit card machine and refused to accept the voucher. I explained that this was the reason I had booked this particular hotel and that I had used the voucher without a problem in the Old Ground Hotel the night before for dinner. I even had to use my mobile to check the balance of the card. When this was not good enough, I was then told to ring customer services. They were closed of course because it was a bank holiday. She became gradually more unhelpful and I called for the Manager. On arrival, he asked the receptionist to try swiping the card in the machine in the nightclub. She came back to say that it did not work there. This hotel is not in a position to accept these vouchers, yet on advice by telephone and email I had been incorrectly informed. The Manager's attitude was tough, it wasn't his problem and I had to pay in cash cutting our holiday short. There was no apology about the late night noise or alarm. I would never recommend this hotel to anyone, it put a dampener on a lovely weekend away.

“Irish Travels”

The Queens was located in a great area making it easy to explore. The staff were very friendly and room was quite reasonable. The only drawback was the night club opposite which went to the early hours, with mostly drunken patrons spoiling our sleep. The hotel itself was wonderful and very comfortable. The night club was not the hotels fault of course but should be mentioned if you are seeking a peaceful nights sleep in the area. The bar next door is really great with Irish music to have any toe tapping. Wonder down the street and you will find a fantastic sculpture of 2 clasped hands. Like being in the hands of God when you climb in. lovely memory of Ireland. Despite the night club I do believe I would return to the Queens as they did everything to make us welcome and comfortable.

Room Tip: Opposite side to Night Club.

“Cheap for good reason”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 November 2011

First impression was good... The lady on reception was very polite & did warn us that there was a nightclub & it could be quite noisy at night. Room was nothing special but we just wanted somewhere to get a nights sleep on way to Kerry so we wern't fussy.
Weather was awful so decided we would just have a couple of drinks in the hotel bar... only to go down & find it closed. When it came to bedtime it was hard to sleep with the noise from the nightclub.. Finally dozed off only to be woken at about 3am by the fire alarm. Rang reception & they said all was fine. Tried to go back to sleep & the fire alarm went off again. This time I got up to see what was going on. I met two girls from the next room who were also annoyed & the 3 of us headed for reception. We met a night porter in the hall who was extremely rude & just kept saying everything was fine. when we tried to speak he wouldnt let us. he kept speaking over us & when I said I wanted to speak to someone else he told us to go back to our rooms & speak to someone in the morning! Then he walked off!

Im sure the fire alarm doesnt go off every night & the nightclub is prob just weekends so if you are looking for a bed for the night at a good price I would recommend this hotel but if you are looking for anything more, look somewhere else.

Room Tip: Ask for a room as far away from the nightclub as possible
