“One of the worst hotels I have stayed in.”

The reception area smelt of fried food. We had a family room which was cold, it was heated by an electric radiator which kept clicking on and off all night. The bathroom had no heating except for a small heated towel rail. The shower was dangerous because it could not be regulated so it was either boiling hot or freezing cold. The evening meal was a disaster the service was slow and sloppy. The curried fish was so spicy it was Inedible, the steak was tough. We were given desserts on the house to make up for the poor dinner. For most of the night we were kept awake by some loud humming noise coming from outside. our room smelt of curry and it seemed to infiltrate the whole room, we were off to a funeral and were worried our clothes would smell of it. The breakfast was another disaster, with cold plates, rubbery eggs and greasy potato cakes. there was no milk or sugar on the table again another meal we could not eat.

“Great staff”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 December 2011

Lovely old hotel in need of some TLC. I believe work will start next year to upgrade. The heating is a must for upgrade, very cold in some rooms and corridor. Staff were excellent and could not do enough to assist. Our evening meal and breakfast were excellent. The new curry menu looks great and husband enjoyed his two courses from it.
The views are wonderful.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the front of the hotel seem to be the warmer ones.

“Great accomodation, food and very friendly staff.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 October 2011

We really enjoyed our stay at the Bonsyde House Hotel. The views were fantastic, the room was extremely spacious and very well equiped and good sized ensuite. The food was delicious with very generous portions. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We would certainly recommend the Bonsyde as a good base to explore the surrounding area. “As a Restaurant Only”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 October 2011

We used to visit this hotel in its 1980's Earl O' Moray guise, monster T-Bones for not many bucks, and rediscovered it a few weeks ago as a pleasant place to stop for lunch.
The menu is not over-ambitious, seniors' menu is adequate in choice and ideal for a midday meal. The promised curry menu being launched is unusual in that it avoids the 'old standards'.
Value excellent at under £10 for 3 courses, £8 for 2 courses in the '"seniors' menu".
Quality is outstanding, service discreet but attentive. Our battered fish n chips were the best tasted in years, and well presented with a tasty small side salad - NO smelly coleslaw or limp lettuce! No objections raised when we asked to enjoy coffee in the quiet lounge.
Not an easy place to find unless like us, local, or with a GPS, but well worth the search!
The views from the warm, bright, dining room across the Bathgate Hills to the south or the Pentlands to S.E. are stunning.

“Great view, great staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 August 2011

We really enjoyed our stay at the Bonsyde in Linlithgow (about a 25 minute train ride from Edinburgh). It is set on a hill overlooking picturesque fields and the Linlithgow Palace in the distance. Our room was good size and comfortable. The staff (Susan, Lea, Kirstie, and John) were friendly and helpful. Since we did not have a car (you should consider renting one as it is pretty good walk to town), they arranged taxis for us to take us to and from the train station or just into town. John quickly answered all my emails prior to arrival. Susan was especially helpful (and busy serving as front desk clerk, bartender, and helping Lea wait tables in the hotel dining room on the night of our arrival). When my wife found there was no hairdryer in the room, Susan drove to her house at 11:00pm to get her own personal hairdryer for her to use. We would stay here again.
