“Snow Joke.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

After a few drinks in Glasgow and Balloch, I took the train to Bowling to get a good sleep. As there were no taxis outside, I walked the 20 minutes to the travelodge and received a warm welcome on arrival.
The room was clean and comfortable, and although it is fairly near to the stations, it would probably better suit a car trip than a train one. Everything works fine, and is in the standard Travelodge format.
The next morning I opened the curtains and saw a thick blanket of snow, but thankfully the double glazing did its job and I didn't hear any traffic noise slushing in the snow. With 40 minutes to spare, I got a drink in the garage next to the hotel, I asked which is the nearest station and was told it was 50-50. I decided to walk to Dumbarton East and found the walk further than from Bowling, this may be beneficial to anybody thinking of doing the same.

“Perfect for short stay”

This hotel was clean and comfortable, rooms are good size, a good location. Staff were very helpful and friendly. We slept very well and did not hear any road noise, just a few trains passing which did not disturb our sleep at all. Excellent value, and we would definately stay here again.

“How bad can it get”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 October 2011

This must be one of the worst places I have stayed in, situated behind a petrol station with a railway line to the rear and a main road to the front. The hotel was souless and I just had a feeling that it needed a good clean or indeed complete refurbishment. Even at £40 per night this was not good value. Situated next to a Little Chef where we ate breakfast, this was similar to the hotel inclusive rotting window cills which typified the overall quality, the food was equally just as bad. My suggestion would be demolish both buildings and construct a new facilty before they both fall down
The one redeeming factor was that the staff were helpful even though they work in such horrid conditions

“Excellent value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 September 2011

We paid £25 for the night for a room to sleep 3 people. The room was large and clean (though not new) and we slept very well indeed. We were not troubled by the road noise to the front and did not hear the trains. We ate in the Little Chef but also noticed places in Dumbarton - The Clipper and a country house hotel that looked OK. There is an M&S food store at the garage over the road.

The bathroom was not brand new but everything worked properly and it was very clean. The staff were friendly and helpful.

For that price you really cannot complain. This is an older Travelodge but it is perfectly functional for an overnight stay on a long trip. The location by A82 is perfect for that.

You do indeed get what you pay for - but we felt this was exceptionally good value.
