A recent business trip was extended to create a long weekend for sightseeing. We wanted somewhere cheap, cheerful but overall, fresh, clean and tidy.
The travelodge at Dumbarton, on the A82 was perfect. The prices were very cheap - one of the main criteria. The room was basic but clean and comfortable with the usual writing desk. This one was big enough for a setteee by the window.
TV was good with more than the basic 5 channels. A railway ran along the back of the hotel so every so often the quietness would be punctuated by the sound of a passing commuter train.
The hotel has no catering facilities at all, instead relying on a Little Chef next door. I find Little Chefs poor and overpriced and, given that we never went there, I cannot comment further on this particular one.
Because the hotel has no restaurant we tried the pub across the road - "The Stonefield". We went there the first night because we wouldn't need to drive back to the hotel. The food was OK-ish, the place was noisy with TV and was very busy. Needless to say we never went back prefering to look elsewhere. Crossing the busy A82 on foot can be interesting!
Staff at the travelodge were polite and friendly, rooms were well made up and maintained spotless though the bathroom could have done with a makeover (the bathroom radiator was disconnected "for your safety" according to the sign that had been posted).
If you are looking for cheap, clean and comfortable and don't want, rude, dirty, or any other unpleasantness I would recommend this hotel. If you want all the bells and whistles you will be terribly disppointed.
