“Well located hotel for Loch Lomond and other tourist area”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 August 2011

The hotel is very well situated although it is on one side of a dual carriageway. It is easy to get out both east and westbound. Access from the south is easy via the Erskine Bridge (no toll is charged although my road atlas says there is a toll!).
The hotel is in need of some refurbishment but is basically OK and the staff are friendly and helpful. The rooms are standard travelodge rooms - if you've stayed in one you know all about the others. We had a family room which gave us plenty of space.
There is a Little Chef next to the hotel for breakfast but acrross the road is a Crown Carvery pub which is open for breakfasts as well. The staff there were excellent. An alternative for breakfast to the Little Chef and the Crown carvery is the cafe at Morrisons supermarket 2 miles away in the middlew of Dumbarton. There are several buses each hour to Glasgow, Balloch, Helensburgh etc. and there are two nearby railway stations - Dumbarton East (with a Park and Ride car park) and Bowling ( with a good pub-restaurant next to it).
The hotel offers easy access to Loch Lomond (Balloch is about 8 miles away on the A82), Dumbarton Castle, The Firth of Clyde, The Trossachs, Helensburgh and the sea lochs of Gareloch and Loch Long as well as Glasgow.
I would certainly consider staying here agian when next in the srea.

“Make sure you get a cheap price”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 August 2011

Greeted by friendly staff, but this is a very tired establishment. A very depressing room after a long drive, and sadly driving around Dumbarton didn't list our spirits either. However, it was cheap, and we did sleep, although it was noisy and hot. This was the worst place we stayed in on a 5 night trip.

“Comfortable and Basic”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 July 2011

A recent business trip was extended to create a long weekend for sightseeing. We wanted somewhere cheap, cheerful but overall, fresh, clean and tidy.

The travelodge at Dumbarton, on the A82 was perfect. The prices were very cheap - one of the main criteria. The room was basic but clean and comfortable with the usual writing desk. This one was big enough for a setteee by the window.

TV was good with more than the basic 5 channels. A railway ran along the back of the hotel so every so often the quietness would be punctuated by the sound of a passing commuter train.

The hotel has no catering facilities at all, instead relying on a Little Chef next door. I find Little Chefs poor and overpriced and, given that we never went there, I cannot comment further on this particular one.

Because the hotel has no restaurant we tried the pub across the road - "The Stonefield". We went there the first night because we wouldn't need to drive back to the hotel. The food was OK-ish, the place was noisy with TV and was very busy. Needless to say we never went back prefering to look elsewhere. Crossing the busy A82 on foot can be interesting!

Staff at the travelodge were polite and friendly, rooms were well made up and maintained spotless though the bathroom could have done with a makeover (the bathroom radiator was disconnected "for your safety" according to the sign that had been posted).

If you are looking for cheap, clean and comfortable and don't want, rude, dirty, or any other unpleasantness I would recommend this hotel. If you want all the bells and whistles you will be terribly disppointed.

“Excellent and close to football ground”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 July 2011

This is an excellent hotel i was staying here for business and noticed that the local football team (dumbarton fc) were playing at home to peterhead fc so i deceided to go along and watch it dumbarton won the match 5-2 and the quality of football was at least english championship standard the fans also were fantastic. Onto the hotel and it has everything you would expect for a cheap hotel (the staff were lovely) the only downside was that it was on a busy road another good point is that it was next to the railway so i could do a spot of train spotting. Thourghly enjoyed and would come again.
