“AMAZING!!”

I have to say this hotel is by far the best place to stay and eat in Dumbarton. In comparison with it's sister hotel the Abbotsford it is miles ahead. Since our Last visit the hotel has been totally refurbished and the food is beyond what we expected. The Menu has been updated and im aware that they have a talented new chef who shows great ambition in his cooking. The staff were very efficient and couldn't have been any more helpful. I would definetely recommend th Dumbuck Hotel to anyone who thinks of staying there. Absolutely Gorgeous!!

“Reheated Food”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 March 2010

I stayed here two nights in March 2010 - looking to take my mum out for a nice meal for Mothers day.

The food was woeful - aside from being so cold we sent it back, it was patently obvious that the food had been cooked long in advance and was just heated up before serving (and they even got that wrong).

Specifically, the baked brie and mushroom starter was good, but just wasn't warm enough. The chicken and roast potato main had to be sent back - and those potatoes had obviously been cooked hours before they ended up on my plate. They did manage to serve the cheesecake at the right temperature though.

For £88 a night, I expect a bath in my room too. The travelodge less that a mile away looks much better value in hindsight.

All in all, this place was very expensive, for a very poor meal.

We had a great time at Dumbuck Hotel, much better than a stay with a national brand. Friendly staff made us feel very welcome.
The hotel was nice and clean, which is very important.
The place was showing its age but this some how adds to its charm. Last decorated in the 1980's we thought. Again this made the place more interesting.
We had breakfast and evening meal, both of which were great.
We also enjoyed the extensive range of malts at the bar, staff were very happy to talk us through the range. Regreted this a little in the morning !

“Abysmal”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 December 2009

Christmas family dinner was dreadful. Service was very poor; staff had no idea how to treat guests or basic protocols of customer service. The bar and wine cellar were poorly stocked; they couldn’t provide our second or even third choice of wine. The dinner was also poor – appeared to be reheats. The filo pastry baskets tasted like fat sodden batter, and the turkey dinner was cold with congealed gravy. If that was not bad enough, we were rushed through our meal and had staff clearing debris from the table during courses rather than between them and we were served cold tea during rather than after the sweet. Christmas dinner at the Dumbuck was not cheap at £50 per head. Poor management, lack of experienced staff and general disregard for customer satisfaction spoiled our Christmas. Our complaints were met with an air of hostility. Eventually we were offered complimentary drinks, which we refused as we couldn’t wait to escape from the place.

“Excellent hospitality!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 September 2009

Arrived here for 1 night over the August bank holiday and found the hotel and facilities to be lovely. We booked into our room and as others have mentioned they were quite small, but perfectly ample for 1 night with all the facilities needed, good shower, bathroom, etc. Tea and coffee facilities. I think the surprise for us, was the quality of the dining experience here. The bar area is a lovely relaxing modern environment and the staff extremely friendly. As we had travelled by bike a long way, we decided to dine in the restaurant here. Wow - it was superb. The choice on the menu and standard of cuisine was excellent. Would not hesitate to stay here again and would recommend to others.
