“Unforgetable”

We arrived on the 15th August, front of house was very friendly and pleasent. During our stay which was until the 31st Aug there was nothing was too much trouble for them. This was very important for me as whilst my husband was at work I stayed in the room all day. As for housekeeping again nothing was too much trouble and even though they were busy they still took the time to talk to me and make sure I had everything I needed. Restaurant staff again very good service, the food was very good and even though they were always busy they always made you feel that you were the only person in there, and you could tell they wanted to make sure that everything was as you wanted it. When we had room service it was very quick and always hot and a smile off the waitress that brought it. All the staff went above and beyond to make sure your stay with them was enjoyable. If you want a base to see the sights and breath taking country or a you just need to get away and chill then this is a very good hotel to use. We will be using this hotel whenever we need to be in that part of Scotland and looking forward to doing so.

“What a disappointment”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 August 2010

Normally we enjoy eating at the Abbottsford and have celebrated many family occasions there however tonight we were left very disappointed. We arrived on a Sunday evening after 8 pm, were welcomed and shown to a table in a quiet restaurant. The melon I had as a starter had 3 seeds/pips which was not a good start and my main course of Roast Beef was extremely bland and tasteless. My husband had haggis to start which he enjoyed and Sea Bass to follow which unfortunately contained bones. Unfortunately we were made to feel very uncomfortable as we were continually interrupted to ask if things were "okay" when trying to eat and/or talk and the staff were setting up for breakfast rather noisily and intrusively around us and we felt they were standing around waiting for us to leave to allow them to go home. Normally we would have a sweet or coffee but felt the need to leave.

“Well run family Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 August 2009

Booked in last minute and from beginning to end our stay was magnificent. The Receptionist was very friendly, and nothing was too much trouble. The room was terrific, and evening meal in the restaurant was 1st Class. One of the owners was supervising and the restaurant ran like clockwork. All the young waitresses had very pleasant personalities and nothing was too much trouble..

Only downside I felt was that the bar was a bit like a Working Mens Club.

Will definitely return if I'm in the Dumbarton area again

“Great room”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 June 2008

Just spend one night at the Abbotsford Hotel in Dumbarton while attending nearby wedding - very pleasantly surprised!
As previous reviewer pointed out, reception and bar area looked ok, corridor to rooms not promising but what a pleasant surprise the actual room was - very much a 4 star and newly done; tasteful decor, comfy bed, very good bathroom, and all spotless. View to rear of trees / plants, large windows, bathroom had skylight.
Staff all very friendly, extremely efficient service too.
Breakfast was also good.
Good value for the area, handy for Loch lomond as well as Glasgow airport. Plenty of parking.
All in all a very pleasant stay.

  • Liked — Very nice room / bathroom
  • Disliked — Decor in corridor, reception & bar dated looking
