We stayed two nights with Joy and David and the fantastic weather meant that we got to see their beautiful eco home at its best. They have just the one guest suite (with its own private entrance) which is furnished tastefully and comfortably. It has a small sitting nook (with a wee TV and Sky digibox and info on birds, places to visit) but the Woodhouses were generous with their own sitting area and you could make yourself at home on the sofa with the stunning views of Loch na Keal in front of you. The house's setting is wonderful - you look out across to Ben More, the Gribbun sea cliffs, and in the fields in front of you there are lapwings and curlews, not to mention the Highland cattle.
Ulva Ferry is on Mull's west coast - a bit of a drive from bars / restaurants so it's great that Torr Buan offers DB&B. We enjoyed two amazing 3-course dinners; all home-cooked, including the bread. Joy serves a glass of wine with your dinner but you are free to take your own too. It's served at a corner table from where you can watch your own live nature show. Breakfast was lovely - if you don't fancy a fry-up there is muesli, yoghurt, cereal, fruit, and home-made jam. (It's served at the bigger table at the other end of the living area, so you never feel your privacy is being compromised.)
Torr Buan was just what we needed for a peaceful get-away - quality food, comfortable accommodation and lots of privacy.
