“Hidden Hebridean Treasure”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 September 2010

Lisa and Alasdair had a very warm welcome. The room 'Country Chic' was fantastic. The deisgn and quality was that of a boutique hotel if not better The bed was so comfortable like sleeping in a large warm cloud. They even had a box of items you may have forgotten to pack and extras like a dental repair kit, nail, varnish remover tissues, midge repellant etc.
Breakfast was superb, a good selection of cereals with strawberries, brambles, blueberries, crusty bread, melon and ham, juices and cooked food. The porridge was served with thick cream and all this in the coservaory dining room with splendid views and binoculars to scan the countryside.Lovelly friendly morning taff, Sharong, Ella and Sarah and their daughter Kimberley Jane brought us toast before heading off to school.
Coco and Ronnie, the chocolate labradors were also friendly and made up for missing our own dogs at home.
A really wonderful place to stay, warm welcome, comfortable rooms, delicious food. Paradise on Lewis!

“Fantastic Hotel in a beautiful location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 August 2010

Crowberry is a gem of a hotel, just 10 minutes north of Stornoway. We were made very welcome by the owners Lisa and Alistair, and all the other staff were lovely too - nothing was too much trouble. Our room was very smart and clean and the bedding was fabulous! We stayed in the "Terrific" room, and it was!

Breakfast was delicious every mornng (we stayed three nights), with everything from cereals to the full cooked breakfast on offer.

Our only comment, and its not necessarily a negative one, would be that our room was up a spiral staircase (2 of the rooms are). This was absolutely fine for us, but as both of us know people who wouldn't be able to cope with that, we feel it would be helpful to mention this on the website (unless it is and we've missed it?)

Overall, we were very pleased with our stay and feel that we got good value for money. It really made the holiday. If we ever went back to Lewis, we'd definitely stay again.

“The best breakfast in the Lewis”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 July 2010

My husband and I had a wonderful stay at Crowberry. Lisa, Alasdair and staff gave us a wonderful welcome and gave us lots of information which meant that we managed to see as much of Lewis and Harris as we could in four days. We will certainly return...

“Pretty Average”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 July 2010

My husband and I stayed at Crowberry (Glamour Room) for two nights. Both owners work full time and outsource the work to local staff. We met, over the course of the two days three staff members and the owners. Our room was clean and adequate however we found it lacked little extra touches that we had been spoilt with at other B&B's over the course of our holiday in Scotland (six nights in duration). One (or possibly both) of the owners smoke and we found that whilst they did this outside (at the back of the kitchen door) the offensive smell drifted into our room (both nights) whilst we were trying to sleep.

The breakfast was nice and a reasonable choice is available - it is served in the conservatory which is pleasant.

The two chocolate labradors who predominately live outside are lovely, the two cats who live outside are equally nice.

Overall, we felt our stay compared to other B&B's was average.

Dear R-T_Bikers,

Thank you for your review, we value guest feedback. I wish to state though that neither of us smoke, or ever have. We ask guests who wish to smoke to do so well away from the house, therefore cannot quite explain the smell of smoke in your room and especially at night as we are always in the house in the evenings and would immediately have dealt with this situation had we seen anyone smoking near bedrooms etc.

We have three employees, one of which (Sarah) has worked with us for three years. The girls work as a team taking care of the breakfast service and cleaning duties, but my husband and I are around in the early mornings and in the evenings (as we live in the house) to ensure we have a chance to chat with guests. Unfortunately we have to work as the B&B is a seasonal business and until we can enjoy all year round trade we are forced to work.

I’m sorry you didn’t feel your room has the extra touches, but we would appreciate feedback on what you feel would have made your stay special.

I am glad you liked the cats and dogs who do mainly live outdoors, not because we want them to, but this is one of the many sacrifices that has to be made when you have a B&B as unfortunately not everyone loves them.

Kind Regards,

Lisa and Ali

“A luxury B&B - with a boutique hotel feel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 July 2010

We really loved staying at Crowberry! Lisa greeted us so warmly and showed us to a very plush, modern room.

The weather was truly miserable the day we arrived, so we just stayed indoors and availed ourselves of the wonderful facilities. The room was immaculately decorated with all modern conveniences - satellite TV, WiFi - even a cute mini-bar type basket.

The breakfast matched the 'hotel' feel. There was a varied Continental buffet as well as a beautifully cooked hot breakfast.

If you do stay at Crowberry, there's just a little word of warning. It is in an area near Stornoway called Vatisker but the only sign directing you there is in Gaelic. Look for Bhatasgair.

We really recommend this gem of a B&B - it's worth the journey!
