“A special place to chill out!”

This was our second trip to Iona and we knew we wanted to stay at the Argyll with its fabulous views over the water to Mull, its good food and its warm welcome. Having read some earlier reviews, we booked well in advance and knew to ask for a front room with a view. We were not disappointed. The room was large enough for us to feel comfortable and the bed provided four good nights sleep. The continental breakfast was enough to start our days and the other meals, including afternoon tea on the lawn, were good. Wifi worked well in the ground floor front rooms (but not in our upstairs bedroom with its very thick walls). For a change we also ate very well at the pub and enjoyed the soup in the garden at the community centre one lunch time. It's worth taking a part day trip to Staffa if the sea is calm enough. If we go back to Iona, we will stay here again.

“Great and friendly”

I can only comment on Dinner as we stayed in a cottage not far from the hotel.

Dinner was incredible, quite unexpected for an Island as Iona. They've been doing a good job at it for many years and are still improving. The common rooms are nice (they had no problem letting us use wifi) and cozy, and the front garden/lawn is a wonderful place to lounge (weather permitting). Staff are very friendly, casual, and say yes to most request (always a good sign).

Besides, Iona is a magical place - especially when the sun is out (which it was while we were there).

“Such a wonderful and special place”

Three of us (myself, a friend, and her 87 year old mother who has a great deal of difficulty walking) stayed at the Argyll Hotel on Iona for 2 nights. The accommodations were very comfortable, with plenty of room, a hotpot for tea, and comfortable chair. I cannot say enough about the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff--they were magnificent. We were very happy with everything. It was really nice to have such a fine dining room right on the premises. Breakfast was more than adequate, with hot porridge available with the continental breakfast. Yes, you have to pay more if you want eggs and other hot food (which has bothered some other reviewers), but there is plenty without it. Lunch and dinner were delicious. We had a hot breakfast one morning, and it was delicious too. The hotel is conveniently located to the ferry, within walking distance even for those of us walking with a cane. Be advised for those with even more limited mobility: you must go up steps to the second floor to reach the guest rooms.
I would love to go back to the Argyll Hotel again, and hope I have a chance to do so. Iona is beautiful. There are plenty of places to hike or walk, explore the abbey and the convent ruins. It is not developed, with sheep that still wander past you on your hikes. Bring clothes that can withstand rain, and plan on wearing layers as the weather can change in an instant. If you are there for a longer period of time, check out Alternative Boat Hire for trips to other islands, or around the islands to see wildlife.

“We couldn't believe how nice this place is.”

We had a gorgeous stay at the Argyll Inn. Iona is magical. And though we only stayed one night at the Inn, we had a delightful time. The service was excellent. Our several somewhat unusual requests were cheerfully met. The room was fine and very comfortable. There are cozy front lounges with a fire to rest and chat. The meals were exceptionally good-- organic and local vegetables and fruit, exquisitely prepared. Better than the best organic/ locavore meals I've had in London and NYC. Nothing could have beaten leisurely coffee in the sun room, with quiet folk music or piano sonatas playing, reading one of the great books stocked all around the hotel. This was our first time in Iona but we will definitely make the pilgrimage again, not least because of the charm of the Argyll Inn.

“Superb - lived up to my girlfreind's childhood memories, and I can't wait to return.”

My girlfriend and I took the last room - one without a bathroom - at fairly short notice. She'd stayed at the hotel a few times since 1984, and had very fond memories of it, which she wanted to hsare with me. She was not disappointed, and I left with the same sentiment of wishing to return there, whihc her aunt and uncle do every year.

Having heard so much about this hotel, I felt that it had a lot to live up to. Not only did it meet these high expectations, it surpassed them! While the room was a little small, we didn't mind as we were fairly late booking it, and we spent most of our time exploring the island. It alo encouraged us to make use of the hotel's lounges, interacting with other guests, and playing on its chessboard.

Breakfasts are included in the price, and are genorous: fruit, juice, teas/coffees, cereal, and porridge are complimentary, but other hot dishes are available. On our last morning, I had the delicious highland breakfast, but felt that it was fairly expensive, which I suppose is due to Island prices being slightly higher than those in Aberystwyth.

Evening meals are extra, and are well worth staying in for: they are slightly more expensive than on other locations on the island, but are far better quality as they are different, fresh, organic, local, and unbelivably tasty! Good selection of real ales brewed in Oban - the Grozet goosebrry-infused beer is well worth sampling.

Staff were friendly, approachable, and very attentive. The stay was most relaxing, and the best holiday that I've ever had.
