“What A Bloody Nighmare”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 May 2010

Me and my partner and our two children fancied going to go ape for a couple of days last summer. We decided to come to this hotel to stay. We booked it (along with go ape) in January that year. They confurmed the dates and said our room will be ready and waiting when we get there. In June 2009 we arrived at what we thought was a very well managed and grand hotel. It looked quite busy and the kids were getting excited. Our oldest was 14 at the time. And then Anna (youngest) was 13.
Because of there age we had alowed them to sleep in there own suite. When we checked in there was a very nice and helpful woman at the desk.
Later on that evening we had dinner at the hotel. It was quite adiquit but could have been better. The kids were fussy so they didn't really eat much.
At 11pm that night we put the kids to bed. We just stayed in our room the whole time. Then they both came running through to us saying there was someone in the room. So they slept with us. The next day, we began to realise that we had made the mistake of staying there. -That day there was problem after problem after problem. We decided to check out and leave. We stayed in the hotel down the road from it.

We then decided to take the kids back when they were a bit older (25/4/2010) to find that is was closed. We could understand why it was closed. But if it was re-opened, i know i would never go back!

“Did not honour our booking”

We booked our wedding party into Inchrie Castle Hotel in August 2008. A total of 44 guests were due to stay here the weekend of our wedding on the 21st February 2009.
48 hours before our firsts guests checked in for the weekend, the owner rang us to tell us they would not be open, even though only 4 days before he had assured us our bookings were fine and they were getting ready to receive our Wedding Party.
This left us in an awful situation, where we had to rearrange all our guests, and our own, accommodation for the wedding. But, the worst part is, they took a booking fee from us - a few hundred pounds, which we have not seen a penny back. The run up to our wedding was ruined by this sham of a hotel. Do not stay here.

stayed in the hotel one night (too many), there was no welcoming at the reception, very difficult to find staff, There was no heating in any of the rooms, they were dirty, undusted and infested. Some of the party even found cockroaches, The staff where very unpleasent and spoke very little English, more interester in playing with there laptops than serving guests, WHen the staff were approched with probems they where not helpfull at all. On the morning of departure the staff were unwilling to take orders breakfast and resenting helping people with there orderes. Overall in our opinion it is a hotel to stay clear of in any off peak period

“Bring Back George”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 November 2008

I visited this hotel with my mother earlier this year and met a wonderful caring manager by the name of George Telford, I have his card and found it in September and contacted the hotel to be told by another man that George was on his day off and offered to help with my booking, I wanted to bring the rest of my family back to this warm friendly place and let them all meet the man that took the time to show us the entire place including parts of the hotel that were not even opened, I returned with my family and the excitement that we had driving into Aberfoyle was unbelievable, until we arrived at the hotel to actually be told by a lovely young lady at reception that George had left early summer. I could not take this in as I understood he was on a days leave and was very dissappointed with the stay in this now very unmanaged place they have the cheek to call a hotel. I could not believe that they used the old staff just to get a booking I will never return to this place again and after speaking with the housekeeper I am glad George got out as she was.

“Don't Bother!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 November 2008

The hotel is situated in a very secluded position on the outskirts of Aberfoyle. There were no complaints about the food which was well presented and tasty although the portions were slightly small and the choice was limited. The staff, particularly the receptionists, were helpful and friendly. What really lets this hotel down is the state of the rooms in particular and the interior in general.
Our room (although a supposedly superior room) had a bathroom door that would not shut, curtain rails that were coming away from the ceiling, a broken blind in the bathroom, thick dust on the shelves of the bedside cabinets and I even had to repair the toilet cistern myself one evening to get the toilet to flush!
The hotel generally had a damp, musty feel to it and much of the decor looked tired. All in all I wouldn't use this hotel again until a thorough internal refurbishment had been carried out.

  • Liked — Friendliness of receptionists
  • Disliked — Poor state of our room and hotel in general
