“Nice Hotel in need of a little TLC”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

We recently stayed for 3 nights early Feb 12. The first impression is that the ground of the hotel are stunning. After parking the car we noticed that the hotel desperately needs some TLC. The outside needs painting and the window are in a poor condition.

Our room in the old wing had great views and was spotlessly clean everything we needed was in the room but was let down a little by the windows that were in a bad way and the walls need a lick of paint.

The breakfast in the hotel was superb as was the pool facilities and bar areas

Service was very good throughout the hotel.

We ate in Raffertys restaurant which although the food was OK we felt it was overpriced for the standard.

The other thing that we noticed was that the corridors were very cold and the radiators never seemed to be on.

Overall we had a great stay and we would use this hotol again with a little tlc this could be fantastic.

“Stunning scenery”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

Stayed here in July 2011 in one of the lodges on a time share exchange. We had a large 2 bedroom unit which had 3 bathrooms one of which had a sauna. The unit had all the fittings you would expect of a good self catering apartment.and was very clean although as a Gold Crown Resort some areas were a bit tired, described as lodges the units are two storey blocks of six
The Complex is set in lovely well kept gardens in an area of outstanding natural beauty and is very peacefull. The pool and changing areas were very clean and of a good standard, we did not eat in the restraunt so cannot comment on this.
For the kids Go Ape at Aberfoyle is a must with the longest zip wires in the UK and the Go Outdoors right on the doorstep of the complex are both great fun.

“Wonderful situation and views”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

Had 3 days at a conference here recently. Gorgeous views, nice big rooms, and (mostly) very helpful and pleasant staff. Swimming pool was lovely.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front of the main hotel have a glorious view of the loch

“Great value and friendly staff”

We have had many holidays at MacDonald hotels and have always had a good time. However, Mr Seal ( Manager ) and his staff gave a tremendous holiday, with excellent food, accommodation and leisure facilities. All staff were helpful and pleasant at all times, and we will certainly return. Good area for walkers and bikers.

Thanks to all staff.
Eddie and Lorna Groves

Room Tip: The view of the Loch and hills were beautiful.

“One of Scotlands Gems...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

Wife and I stayed for three nights from 8th Jan. and wish we could have stayed for longer.
This must be one of the best hotels in Scotland, and not just because it is set within an area of so much natural beauty, with many breathtaking views all within easy reach. For me what makes this hotel one of the best are the staff, food and facilities.
We booked a promotional deal offered by MacDonalds and had an executive room on the ground floor which was large, well furnished and very clean.
Next to reception there are two comfortable seating areas with the lounge bar and, due to the time of year, a burning log fire.
The restaurant adjacent to this area gives a feeling that you are being well catered for due to its furnishing, seating arrangement and views, and the quality and presentation of the food on offer is of the highest standard.
It was great to return after a day out enjoying what the area has to offer and relax in the pool area before heading into the restaurante for some of the best food I've ever tasted.
The bed is one of the most comfortable I've slept in and the remoteness of the area means a good nights sleep is guaranteed.
Breakfast is as would be expected, with continental and cooked available, and this is also of a high standard.
As I said, its not just the location, facilities and food that make this a hotel I will definately be returning to, the staff also have a big part to play, and all those working whilst we were there, domestic, reception, liesure, restaurante and bar, could not have made us feel more welcome or our stay more enjoyable.
If any of the management happen to read this they are a credit to your hotel and organisation. And a special mention goes out to Betsy in the restaurante who, despite suffering from an extremely sore throat, had time for all the guests she came into contact with and the cleaning staff who were always smiling and chatty and full of knowledge abut the local area.
Cannot comment on the lodges other than to say they looked spacious and well furnished.
I would certainly recommend that if visiting this area of the country, the Forest Hills is the place to stay...We'll certainly be back.

Room Tip: Try and get an executive room which have a balcony and nice views of Loch Ard and the gardens.
