“Good Hotel, Great Staff......... would come again”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2010

As a large group we were split between here and the Old Course Hotel. Our room was spacious, clean (except for on top of the wardrobe) glorious view of the golf course. Food was nice, bar was good price. The only thing that spoilt it was some of the other guests and the lack of night portage, which meant there was lots of shouting/ screaming and door banging and knocking of people trying to get back into the hotel late at night. But I suspect that these sort of customers are not the norm.

“We had a function, what a waste of a hotel considering...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 July 2010

To be clear we didn't stay here, we are local and used the function / dining room to host the event and we're 50/50 about the place...

The location is great, mind you one of the reviews below this one is obviously written by a 'friend' as (a) the operators are Indian (b) the reviewer in Indian and (c) there isn't a tube station in fifty miles of Prestwick, which is built on sand so tunnels are not widely used around this location. Perhaps it's financial constraints where the downstairs is refurbished but apparently the rooms upstairs are shocking, just from word of mouth of those whom stayed there before. The catering surprised me as bing ok, so much so I doubted they made it in the kitchen and suspect it was bought in but notably they closed the kitchen at ten and wanted to serve the food and show the cake before nine which would be before all the guests were there - a hotel should be flexible in such regards when they have agreed to host a function. All the "little" things were missing from our experience and the owner is best described as a grumpy old sod, so much so that two guests at our party looking for a venue were going to book North Beach until they saw and heard the issues we had with the management on the night... which we hid as best as possible to avert the celebration from being tarnished. I wouldn't use this as a venue again nor indeed recommend it which is a shame.

It's a shame because the building is beautiful and just a minute from the train station linked to the international airport a mile or so away, opposite the Old Prestwick golf course and really it should be a four star establishment but it just falls short in so many ways you couldn't list them all here. Old story, stick to what you're good at and hotelier isn't what these guys are good at...

“Friendly new management”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 March 2010

I stayed for 6 days at the beginning of March. I was informed that management had changed that day - a buy-out by some staff. I found the accommodation comfortable and the staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. The food was also good and I had no trouble with the WiFi. I used it a lot. True - some of the decor was a bit dated but I believe they have plans. So it really depends what you want from a stay.

“Disappointing experience; lacking a professional touch”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 June 2009

Rooms: Later in the stay we were moved to the North Beach Hotel again. The room here was an aderquate size with a 'dated' feel. Although the en-suite appeared to have been refurbished recently, the finish was poor and the shower was dirty. The hotel was cold throughout (including the dining area), despite having central heating. The hotel staff were happy to lend portable/oil radiators when required.

Cleaning: Daily cleaning of a high standard (except shower). Tea/Coffee/Biscuits replenished daily and bedding/towels changed frequently. Cleaners are very friendly and flexible to come back at different times e.t.c.

Facilities: The hotel advertised free wi-fi. This was only available in some rooms, as the coverage did not cater for all rooms. The wi-fi was incredibly slow when within range. I noted that some fire exits were bolted/locked shut when I checked out the exit route I would have to take in the event of an emergency. Some fire doors were wedged open.

Food: The menu for guests is limited. Dining for guests sometimes takes place in the bar instead of the restaurant. There is a choice between classic british food and indian food - both have too much salt and are rarely as described. On occasions the food I received was undercooked (cod, potatoes), not heated (*hot* chocolate fudge cake), or overcooked (vegetables, chicken). The service however is quick, and the chef will cook alternatives/variations if requested.

Staff: The owners/managers are lacking in hospitality and customer service skills. They were unable to resolve queries on most occasions. The hotel does have a number of other staff (cleaning staff, waiters, waitresses) who seem to always be polite, friendly and helpful.

I am re-writing this review having seen that my previous review was removed. I have been completely honest about the North Beach Hotel in this review (as I have done with all my other reviews - you can compare them if you like) and welcome you to contact me should you have questions.
