“Misleading Info re the Muirhouse Lodge”

We booked a room at the Muirhouse Lodge Hotel for a one night stay prior to our flight from Prestwick Airport early the next day.

The website gave the impression that all accommodation is in Muirhouse Lodge but when we arrived we were told that we were booked into the sister hotel across the road.
This hotel was very delapidated from the outside and there seemed to be extensive building work going on in the vicinity. No food was available on the premises. The chap on reception was pleasant enough and the family room we were given was a decent size but there was no shower in the bathroom (just a hole in the wall where I presume a shower fitting was going to be installed). There was a massive corner bath which seemed out of place. The building itself needs a good clean and some money spent on it to upgrade it to an acceptable level.
We were told the hotel is full every night which must be because free parking and airport transfers are available as otherwise I cannot imagine that anyone would choose to stay there with the building in its present state.
Because we had an early flight a basic breakfast of tea/coffee/toast/cereal etc. was available.
My main complaint is the misleading impression given by the website with no clear information that most of the accommodation appears to be in the Muirhouse Lodge's sister hotel.

we booked this hotel on the net and it said to put in your credit card details but payment would not be taken off it as you pay at the hotel on arrival.i looked at my bank details a few days later and there was £72 taken out from manor park hotel, i was a bit miffed about this as i thought i booked with muirhouse lodge and i also wondered why the money had been taken out my account.i called the manager and he said this happened because the website had not been updated about payment being taken immediately and muirhouse and manor were sister hotels.he said he would upgrade us to the honeymoonsuite.when we got there it wasnt exactly the honeymmoon suite more like a family room but it was nice, although the picture on the tv was very poor and it didnt have a phone and we wanted a wake up call as we had an early flight the next day, it wasnt a problem though as we asked at reception if they could give us a chap on the door, well this did not happen and its just as well we had a mobile phone which we had set the alarm.the price of the room states full cooked breakfast and transfers to and from the airport included, we had tea and toast and cereal which was fair enough as we were leaving early, but when i got home to my surprise another £6 had been taken out my bank account from muirhouse. i called and spoke to two duty managers who said they would call me back and didnt, i called them back and was eventually told it was probably the airport transfer charge.WHICH SAID ON THE HOTEL WEBSITE WAS FREE! i have given up calling them back, but i will never use this hotel again.

“Wanted me to Grovel”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 July 2005

Arrived just before midnight with a confirmed e-booking (the hotel's own system) to be told the hotel was fully boooked, and there was no room.

Now, OK these things happen, fair enough, but what I do not expect is to be made to grovel by the proprieter when their system goes wrong. The attitude of the proprieter was shocking. She made it very clear that she wanted me to be exceptionally grateful that she had booked me into another hotel, which incidentally was pretty decrepid.

I will not grovel for other people's mistakes.

Be very wary of using the hotel's own booking system which they readily accepted was taking "double bookings" on a regular basis.

If you do book and arrive, and there is no room, be prepared to gush happiness that you have no room, or face the wrath of the owners who had a legal contract to put you up in the first place.

Our first stay in Scotland and we were welcomed like friends. Nice breakfast served daily, great start to our morning. The entire staff was helpful and helped us with our few day adventure in Scotland. We had a large room and felt very comfortable. Woould stay again!

“Comfortable, Convenient and so Welcoming”

Even though it is a stones-throw from the Prestwick airport Muirhouse Lodge is quiet, peaceful and full of surprises! This hotel is not the kind that has a spa and waxing salon. This is the kind of hotel that treats you so much like a friend that you don't want to leave! They offer rides to and from the airport in a comfortable van. Breakfast is good and served with a smile, dinners are high quality and both are served in a lovely glass atrium. The host (Steve) and all of his staff go out of their way to make sure that you are comfortable and happy. The rooms are neat and clean. Car rental and sight-seeing advise is available to help you plan your travels around beautiful Scotland. They offer a computer kiosk and wireless internet access too! I could go on and on. As you can tell I was very impressed with their hospitality and look forward to my next visit!
