“The right qualities but the wrong management”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 August 2010

Il keep this as simple as possible, the food is good for the price and is very reasonable, the rooms are spacious and clean no complaints here, the letdown is the management as a family run hotel i found the staff all doing double jobs fine when the hotel is quite not so good when busy and that's what it was when i stayed there where poor communication between them was a big let down not 1 could give me a straight answer always had to ask another and so forth very poor indeed.

This is the only hotel ware as a recident i found the bar shut at 1am, i have always managed to get a drink by at least by the night porter in other hotels but not in this one very disappointing to say the least they should make this clear when they take a booking.

To sum it up because of staff shortage it made a nice hotel a very poor one and needless to say i wont be going back and certainly Robert needs to go on a course on customer relationship ware his qualities are Zero on this subject.

“Where do I begin? The hotel is situated...”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 August 2010

Where do I begin? The hotel is situated in the town centre which is ideal. The rooms are clean and fresh with tv and adequate bath room. All the hard elements are there to have a decent hotel however I found the management to be rude, obnoxious and unwelcoming.

On checking in we were never acknowledged by the receptionist (a lady with short hair who turned out to be one of the managers). " you sort them two out" was our welcome to the hotel. We were then showed to our rooms by a lovely lady who was also working on the bar at the event we were attending. If it wasn't for this lady I'm not sure how the hotel would still be operating. When we went down for dinner I asked the lady behind the bar (the manager with the short hair) what today's roast was she replied "I couldny tell ya" then shouted across the room to ask another staff member what the roast was.

The food was nice apart from the potato skins it was literally the peelings of a potato and fried. Any time I've had loaded potato skins they are filled with cheese or something not the scraps of potato peelings.

They were a few issues with rooms and bar opening times and I appreciate hotel policies etc but the way these issues were handled were absolutely shocking. To the point where the manager was shouting at my family and had to be told by another member of staff to calm down!

On checking out I asked to speak to the manager to be told that the hotel doesn't have one and that it's family run. The manager from the previous night came up to apologise and I wanted to let him know how upset I was by our treatment. That conversation ended up in another argument in reception.

So if you have issues don't expect them to be sorted out professionally and I will definitely not be recommending the hotel to friends and family.

“A friendly hotel with affordable meals”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 August 2010

We booked this hotel for a short 3-night break and to take in Ayr Flower show. Our Super Double room was very spacious and well-appointed, but unfortunately a leak appeared in the ceiling above the wall-mounted TV just before we went to bed on the first night. The management immediately moved us to a spare Double room for the night, and next morning moved us to another Super Double room for the rest of our stay - a slightly larger and more private room. We received a discount at the end of our stay without any prompting. We took advantage of their meal offers of 2 courses for £7.95 or 3 courses for £9.95 - a limited selection, but full portiions and friendly service. We would certainly recommend this hotel as a base for exploring Ayr and the surrounding countryside. We would also recommend the cafe/brasserie 'Saffy's', which is a 5-minute walk from the hotel. It caters for all tastes and ages and has friendly and prompt service, with generous portions of food.

“Excellent value for money especially the food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 July 2010

My husband and I spent 3 nights here with our friends. Our rooms were very clean and comfortable. The staff were extremely courteous and professional. The food was fabulous and beautifully presented. The hotel was quiet when we were there and we felt that it deserved to be fully booked. Even if you do not choose to stay here certainly have an evening meal in their restaurant. You won't be dissapointed.

“Excellent weekend”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 April 2010

Stayed for 4 nights 15-19th April for Scottish grand national weekend. Good location near to all town ammenities. The king room was excellent as was the breakfast and other food we ate during the stay. Staff was extremely helpful and attentive to all needs. Will definetly stay there again and would recommend to others.
