Do not expect any assistance from management when things go wrong. Staff are very attentative when taking your money but do not expect any refund or recompense if you have to cancel, for ANY reason. Despite repeated promisses management fail to return calls.
We booked the Grand Hogmanay Ball with 15 others in our party, as we have done for several years. The £160 per couple is paid well in advance.
My wife and I had to cancel as my mother-in-law passed away, unexpectedly, on Christmas morning after a short illness. Her funeral service was on December 30th, the day before this Ball. For obvious reasons we were unable to attend this party night.
We contacted the hotel to request a refund or other recompense and got the run-around from the start. Despite numerous phone calls and personal visits it took well over a week to eventually speak to the General Manager, Michael Bayliss. He stated that "It is company policy that under NO circumstances do we give refunds". He told me he would speak to the "Executive Manager" (I learned today that there is no such person at this hotel) for a final descision and call me back. I am still waiting!
There must be something seriously wrong at this hotel when they cannot refund £160.
There are many other equally good/better hotels in Ayrshire and we will be spending our money elsewhere next time.
