“Comfort and style”

Needing a place to stay in the Perth area and not keen on the character-free inns and lodges, we booked into the Murrayshall House for one night. The house certainly has character and the room we were allocated was bright, well decorated in a modern style, with everything required for our one night stay. The en-suite was modern, clean and without any signs of creeping damp from leaking showers that is so common in many hotels! The public areas are typical Scottish Baronial and classic; perhaps not very recently decorated, but neither was it tatty as might be suggested by some. We would have rather dined in the hotel, especially as the typical Scottish rain was lashing down, however, we were told only dinner in the formal dining room was available. This was dissapointing as a lighter 'bar supper' was what we sought - and ended up finding in Scone village. We returned to the hotel and had a drink in the bar, at typical prices for such an establishment. The roaring log fire completed the image of the Scottish stately home and was most welcome after braving the weather outside. Breakfast comprised both a buffet of cereals etc and a selection of cooked options - mostly locally sourced produce. Throughout our stay the staff were attentive, helpful and friendly. Altogether a quiet and relaxing break.

“Another fantastic stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

We have stayed at Murrayshall on several occasions since our wedding there in 2005 and they have never failed to meet our expectations. My husband and I recently phoned up at the last minute to book an overnight stay on a Saturday night in order to celebrate some good news. We were advised that there was a champagne gourmet dinner being held that particular Saturday in the restaurant which was ideal for us both. We were offered a good deal for the accomodation so we decided to book.
Our room was fantastic, nice and large, as was the bed. When we sat down in the cocktail bar before dinner, we were immediately served a glass of champagne, which was soon followed by canapes (and a couple of top ups if required). We were then shown through to our table and what followed was a delicious 5 course meal, all cooked to an exceptionally high standard. The service was excellent throughout and we were given a short talk in between courses in regard to the different types of champagne we were to consume during the course of the evening. The head chef, Craig Jackson (I'm not always good at remembering names so forgive me if this is wrong), came and spoke to all the dinner guests and it was nice to discuss the food and let him know our thoughts. I can still taste the smoked salmon consomme, it was so good.
Breakfast the next morning was as good as it has always been and again the service was great.
Overall, I have never had a bad word to say about this hotel, they have always met our expectations and the service has always been excellent. I would always recommend this hotel as a great place for a quiet getaway.
P.S.The golf is also excellent, as is the homemade shortbread :-)

Room Tip: Rooms to the front of the hotel probably have the best views but since you are surrounded by the gol...

“Could and should be better....”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

Murrayshall House is a country house hotel set in well maintained grounds - two golf courses. The hotel appears from the outside to be welcoming and pretty. The decor seems a bit dated and uninspired...about average for most non city scottish hotels unfortunately. There are many standards met (but no expectations exceeded) - bed was comfortable, room was clean, staff were polite, hotel was quiet, very convenient if you are a golfer....
Now the mean bit...the food, really is such a let down...very disappointed by the standards, attention to detail and portion sizes. Not going to nitpick over the numerous let downs but the whole dining experience over a couple of days was enough to get the measure of the place. Makes me think the kitchen staff need a managers gentle boot up the jacksie or a refresher in a busy modern restaurant with high standards... What we were served just wont cut it these days....anywhere.

“Great for a wee break”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

We stayed over after attending a ceilidh in the hotel, check in was very quick but not in a rushed through kind of way as is often the case in the chain hotels. We were shown to our room and it was lovely, overlooking the walled gardens, sitting area with tea/coffee and shortbread at hand, then in to a seperate bedroom area with a cracking shower.
Bed was firm but comfortable and the black out curtains worked a treat.
We only had breakfast in the hotel which was lovely, overlooking the golf course, the views were amazing.Best bit of the breakfast is they cook it to order and there was copious amounts of tea and coffee offered. On the strength of this overnight stay we have booked again to visit in Oct.

Room Tip: We found the shower temp to be quite cold but if you run the cold water tap on the sink the water is...

“Fantastic Wedding”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

Julia & I chose Murrayshall as the venue for our wedding ceremony last year and celebration and stayed on for Hogmanay with the closest family members.

Having worked in a 5 star hotel environment and supplied the high end hospitality industry since 1995, I have know Murrayshall Hotel and their staff from Managing Director through general manager and key staff for many years.

The hotel itself is set in amazing grounds carefully maintained by the grounds staff and greenkeepers and creates a great impression from the moment you enter the driveway.

The hotel offers both traditional manor house ambiance in a relaxed manner has spacious comfortable rooms with the newer extension available across the carpark providing a modern and practical feel for those who have family or want that extra space. The entire hotel accomodation was booked out by our combined families and friends and the reception staff worked tirelessly ensuring that everone was dealt with professionally and in a warm way.

This ranged from my elderly grandmother at 93 to my nephew of 18months nothing proved to be too much effort or an issue.
The feel throughout the hotel was homely and welcoming.

The ceremony took place in the cocktail bar, with photographs backdropped by log fires, woooden staircases and fantastic views across toward Fife.

I have dined at Murrayshall on many occasions and found the masters restaurant comparable to some of Londons finest with great use of local produce, the steaks are absolutely divine and wine cellar extensive and very reasonably priced. The Wedding breakfast was of a similar standard with attentive and unobtrusive service.

Equally the bar staff worked hard throughout particularly in the evening giving consideration to the fact that many of my guests were Royal Marines intent enjoying a proper ceilidh .
The management of the entire day was seamless with Alan the General manager on hand to provide not only direction of his staff but the florist, band, photographer and guests in a friendly and professional manner.
The day could not have gone more to plan and expectations by both my wife and I were exceeded.

I cannot give enough praise to the team, a huge thank you to all.

If you are considering Murrayshall as a venue for a wedding, special occasion or visit you are in our opinion and multiple experiences in safe hands.

Room Tip: If you want a special night room 2 is very grand with views over towards Fife with excessive space...
