Needing a place to stay in the Perth area and not keen on the character-free inns and lodges, we booked into the Murrayshall House for one night. The house certainly has character and the room we were allocated was bright, well decorated in a modern style, with everything required for our one night stay. The en-suite was modern, clean and without any signs of creeping damp from leaking showers that is so common in many hotels! The public areas are typical Scottish Baronial and classic; perhaps not very recently decorated, but neither was it tatty as might be suggested by some. We would have rather dined in the hotel, especially as the typical Scottish rain was lashing down, however, we were told only dinner in the formal dining room was available. This was dissapointing as a lighter 'bar supper' was what we sought - and ended up finding in Scone village. We returned to the hotel and had a drink in the bar, at typical prices for such an establishment. The roaring log fire completed the image of the Scottish stately home and was most welcome after braving the weather outside. Breakfast comprised both a buffet of cereals etc and a selection of cooked options - mostly locally sourced produce. Throughout our stay the staff were attentive, helpful and friendly. Altogether a quiet and relaxing break.
