My wife and I decided to book into the 5-star gold Easter Dunfallandy Country House to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. Not being familiar with the area at all, we were thankful for the clear directions given on their website, and drove from the motorway and up the quiet country road to our destination.
Sue warmly welcomed us on arrival and showed us around the rooms on the ground floor. Dunfallandy used to be a working farm and the house had been restored six years ago. The large living room with its comfy couches and fireplace was enough to indicate that we would have a very relaxing stay here!
Our room (twin room, made up as a double) had all the trimmings - modern TV/DVD player, CD player, closet, coffee/tea facilities (with home-made biscuits which I've just realised we had forgotten to eat!), fireplace and large chest of drawers. The large en-suite had bath/shower and a traditional suite, with plenty of toiletries and towels to use. Both rooms had fantastic views across the Perthshire hills and Pitlochry itself.
An afternoon tea was made up for us shortly after checking in, and Sue asked if we wanted this in the living room or outside. The weather was nice so we chose to have our homemade cakes and pots of tea/coffee in the grounds, overlooking the scenery.
There was a book of menus for local restaurants, from which we booked a couple of tables (Moulin Hotel and Port-na-craig). There was also a number of leaflets for local activities for the area.
Breakfast the following day was plentiful - we had the choices of a (huge) Scottish breakfast, haddock with poached egg, salmon and scrambled egg, cereals, juice, coffee, etc. This was served in the dining room with other guests and Sue had a great eye for detail, with the roll-up menus and napkins, and asked if we wanted anything else - even if I wanted to, I was still full from the previous day's breakfast!
Only a couple of minutes in the car from Pitlochry centre, where there are several shops, restaurants and pubs, as well as nice walks, the Festival Theatre and hydro/dam. The Queen's View is a 15 minute drive from the town and worth going to. Definitely the place to go for a romantic stay in Perthshire!
