On arrival we were warmly greeted by the hotel manager who was friendly and outgoing. He checked us in, booked us a table in the restaurant and directed us to our room.
The room was accessed by a flight of winding stairs with a door at the top which proved a little tricky with luggage.
A traditional key opened the room door which was in poor condition.
The room was a good size with a view over the roof tops to the mountains beyond.
There were two power points which in our opinion isn't enough these days...
The window was single glazed and one of the panes had a crack in it. There was a skylight window in the shower room which I thought was going to fail as I shut it due to the rotten wood frame!
The shower cubicle was in poor condition although the electric shower unit looked nearly new.
The loo was functional.
There were two beds in the room, a single and a double, both had sheets and a duvet. the sheet on the double had a couple of rips in it although these were not serious.
There was a built in wardrobe with ample space for hanging but no shelves. It needed a good clean.
The carpets were of poor quality and needed to be replaced but were at least clean in the main.
The whole decor of the room looked very dated and obviously hadn't been touched in some time. The TV was like something from the 70's!
The restaurant is on the ground floor and and although a little dated there was plenty of room and a choice of tables. The food was nice and service was friendly and adequate.
We had a reasonable nights sleep.
Breakfast was... err... interesting with baked beans being the chefs special!
It was ok although served on a small plate. They had run out of decaf anything and the orange juice was that cheap stuff... The toast was fab though with plenty of butter.
Check out was at 10am and we thought this was a little brisk as breakfast was served until 09:30.
On settling up we pointed out to the manager about a couple of the worse points about the room which he certainly took on board and made a note. He remained very friendly and professional despite our grumbles.
Parking was free and convenient.
On the whole, this hotel has a lot of potential but until it has had a refurb, we sadly won't be returning.
