“Good hotel in a lovely setting”

My husband and I have just got back from a 5 day Shearings coach holiday staying at this hotel. First impressions were very good. All the public areas have been refurbished to a high standard. The restaurant is very pleasant with plenty tables for 2 as well as larger parties. The food was very good with a different menu and several choices each evening. The breakfasts werevery good too. The service in the restaurant was excellent, we never had to wait long to be served and the staff were friendly and efficient. Ther is also a pleasant swimming pool with jacuzzi which we took advantage of though the sauna was out of action while we were there. When we booked the break we were not given any choice with the room and the first room we were given was in desperate need of an upgrade. The lock was faulty, the tv didn't work properly and the bathroom was small with no shelf to put anything. Also we looked out over a flat roof which was not very appealing. After the second night we complained about the room and the very accommodating manager offered to let us upgrade at a cheaper rate than it should have been. We moved into a very smart front facing room with a nice modern bathroom. Eventually I believe that all the rooms will be upgraded but you should definitely ask for a scenic room. We took the inclusive option which gave us free wine at dinner and drinks from 7.30 to 10.30. The hotel was fairly quiet when we were there, but there was never a queue at the bar. In retrospect we think that the £25 hotel allowance per person would have been better value for us as we are not big drinkers and my husband likes a drink before dinner which he had to pay for. I must say that all of the staff at this hotel, from the manager down are very friendly and efficent and we would definitely stay here again. Pitlochry is a lovely place.

Room Tip: Ask for a scenic room and if you can afford it a superior room.

“Pretty Good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

Room was a good size, clean with nice furnishings. Bathroom was very nice. We were upgraded upon arrival (don't know why) to a superior room but for the price we'd already agreed (£65.00). The breakfast was good except for two things. One no-one was around when we went down and after we'd sat down, staff asked us to move. Two, I got a kipper that I didn't ask for with my cooked breakfast. It wasn't worth complaining about but it did make the rest of my food taste fishy.

Hi, glad you enjoyed your break, I've tried to get to the bottom of 'kippergate' and it seems the chef misunderstood one of the waiters so apologies (who decided that kippers should be served at breakfast anyway !!!!! I've never understood that.) The reason you got an upgrade was that a very good friend of mine who recommend this Hotel for you made me! So I am glad you enjoyed your break and thanks for your post.

“Comfort & value in rural Perthshire”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

Friendly staff and comfortable surroundings make this 4 night stay an ideal break. The deal was diner B&B and included a £50 credit at the bar as well as 10% off the original cost. The rooms were large, clean, warm and comforable. The food was simple, plentiful and very good. The whole atmosphere made you relax and enjoy. The pool was warm and inviting. All in all really good value for money when you're looking for a treat you can still afford in these difficult financial times. I will certainly be back before too long.

Room Tip: Look for a superior room. The views are great.

“The perfect getaway.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012 via mobile

My husband and I booked this hotel for 1 night .It was a last minute booking on late rooms.com.We had been here before about 20years ago so had an idea of what we were coming to.
The hotel has partly been refurbished reception and bar/restaurant area and I believe some rooms have been tidied up to a high standard and are very contemporary .

Our room was a twin room which hadn't been upgraded yet. It was fine for what we wanted. Just a bit tired few cobwebs but lovely and warm.
There was the option to eat in the restaurant for a discounted rate offered because we came through late rooms.com. The meal was fault less friendly staff and very accommodating .

Great evening entertainment****

Leisure facilities were a bit disappointing . Great pool and jacuzzi but sauna out of order and the changing rooms a bit tired.

Breakfast was fine. Lovely reception area ideal for reading papers and gathering your thoughts.

Friendly staff especially Frank from the bar and restaurant area a real credit to the hotel. He seems to interact with everyone.

Hello, glad to see that you enjoyed your wee break and thanks for such a prompt post. Can you believe that a customer threw a whole bucket of water on the coals in the sauna which of course blew it and now needs a full replacement !! Frank is made up with your comment and I'm delighted you enjoyed your meal.

Just had a 5 day Shearings coach holiday staying at the Pitlochry Hydro. The hotel was excellent. The public rooms are all comfortable and nicely decorated. Good choice of food served by pleasant attentive staff. Bar service very efficient, there was no queue at all despite it being all-inclusive! Our driver, George, was very professional and knowledgeable and provided commentary throughout. Thank you and well done to all, we will definitely be returning!

Room Tip: Our standard room was a good size and perfectly acceptable. Superior rooms and scenic view rooms are...

Glad you enjoyed your stay and all aspects of your break were reviewed well. Our coach drivers are very knowledgeable about the areas they tour around and many of our guests comment about this.....it makes a huge difference to your holiday and gives you an understanding of where it is you are that you might not get ordinarily. I will pass on your kind words to George who will be thrilled you appreciate his efforts on that score.
See you again soon
