My husband and I have just got back from a 5 day Shearings coach holiday staying at this hotel. First impressions were very good. All the public areas have been refurbished to a high standard. The restaurant is very pleasant with plenty tables for 2 as well as larger parties. The food was very good with a different menu and several choices each evening. The breakfasts werevery good too. The service in the restaurant was excellent, we never had to wait long to be served and the staff were friendly and efficient. Ther is also a pleasant swimming pool with jacuzzi which we took advantage of though the sauna was out of action while we were there. When we booked the break we were not given any choice with the room and the first room we were given was in desperate need of an upgrade. The lock was faulty, the tv didn't work properly and the bathroom was small with no shelf to put anything. Also we looked out over a flat roof which was not very appealing. After the second night we complained about the room and the very accommodating manager offered to let us upgrade at a cheaper rate than it should have been. We moved into a very smart front facing room with a nice modern bathroom. Eventually I believe that all the rooms will be upgraded but you should definitely ask for a scenic room. We took the inclusive option which gave us free wine at dinner and drinks from 7.30 to 10.30. The hotel was fairly quiet when we were there, but there was never a queue at the bar. In retrospect we think that the £25 hotel allowance per person would have been better value for us as we are not big drinkers and my husband likes a drink before dinner which he had to pay for. I must say that all of the staff at this hotel, from the manager down are very friendly and efficent and we would definitely stay here again. Pitlochry is a lovely place.
