“Cosy and social”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 October 2010

From greetings to goodbye I felt warmed and welcomed in this hostel. There is a good common area with games, books and a pool table. There's also a tv room with 100s of movies to watch if you feel like a night or day in.

Breakfast and towel rental is good value, and there is free tea coffee and hot chocolate.

I had one complain about my bedding and when I informed the staff they addressed my complaint very well.

“Quite a nice place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 June 2010

The staff were friendly and helpful, but weren't always around, meaning that I occasionally had to wait some time for one of them to come to the desk. However, this was only a small problem.

The rooms were fairly small and a bit shabby. Importantly, they were clean, relatively well lit, and had comfy beds.

The quality of the location is a bit mixed. The scenery is very pretty and, at times, rather impressive. There is a nearby loch where row boats can be rented quite reaosnably, and this an enjoyable way to spend an hour or so, if the weather allows!
On the downside, there isn't much to do in Pitlochry itself, and I certainly can't recommend it for young people, as nearly everyone there is past 60! If you enjoy long walks or fishing, then the location is for you, otherwise, maybe not a good destination.

The best part would have to be the staff who were very open and cheerful. The worst, proabably the slightly unclean kitchen.

“Relaxed and convenient. Combines basic B&B and hostel facilities at a good price.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 July 2009

We stayed at this backpacker hotel for one night on our tandem cycle tour John O' Groats to Lands End. Booking "on the road" by phone was easy though strangely bookings are referenced only by your first name and a booking number. Staff friendly and helpful and unfazed by our unlikely age for "backpackers" (in our late fifties). We were able to lock the tandem up in a shed at the back of the hostel.
We had private room which was small but had a comfortable double bed, good modern shower room with towels included, and even a hair dryer - well up to typical pub or commerical hotel B&B standards. The kitchen was small but clean and well equipped - quite adequate to cook our evening meal, though you do have to juggle the fire doors to take it though to the lounge to eat. We made our own breakfast, but the hostel offers a toast/scone/cereal/juice breakfast for £1.90 which looked very good value.

“Clean rooms, nice staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 August 2008

It was the first time I had stayed in a shared room and it was great. The antipodean staff were very helpful. The shared areas were clean, the bathrooms ESPECIALLY and there was plenty of the stuff you want - toilet paper, soap, plates, cutlery etc. There was a good mix of internationa guests and all of the people there were considerate of others. I stayed here because I was going water rafting and there are so many other things to do in this town. Would definitely recommend this hostel to my friends and will stay here again - excellent value for money!
