“Beautiful hotel”

I stayed at this hotel in December 2011 for three nights in room 2. The room was clean and well decorated. A bit small but snug and cosy all the same.
The disabled shower was great, could do with more handrails.
The cleaning staff were efficient and polite as were reception.
My Mum had a back injury and the hotel went out of their way to help and no request was left ungranted.
Although out stay was unexpected, I would use this hotel and recommend it.
The breakfast was above average and plentiful.
Evening meals were well worth the money.

“Back from the brink...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

We've stayed at the Fisher's several times over the last 10 years, usually as part of a value-for-money break, and have always recognised that 'the coat must be cut according to the cloth'. This being so, I'd guess that some reviewers might have paid considerably more than we did, judging by their expectations.
We were a party of 4 and had booked a 4-night break over Christmas. Two of our party were in single rooms on the ground floor, with French doors overlooking the garden to the south. These rooms had showers, as we had requested. My wife and I occupied a double room on the 1st floor, overlooking the main street. Although noisier than the singles, this room was quite spacious and had a bathroom with a bath, as we preferred.
All our bedrooms had recently been redecorated and refurbished to a reasonable standard; while not luxurious, we found them very comfortable. None of our party experienced a disturbed night arising from extraneous noise; even our 1st floor room was reasonably quiet in the evening, when traffic in the front street was very light.
The public rooms were of a more variable standard than the bedrooms in terms of decor and furnishings, but were perfectly functional. I'd guess that the current programme of refurbishment had yet to reach some of these; hopefully when it does there will be a marked improvement, without losing Fisher's traditional 'feel' and sense of history.
The restaurant service was generally acceptable and the food was of a good standard, although the vegetables came in surprisingly modest portions. In contrast, breakfast orders did not disappoint, as they were taken individually and could be very generous, given that we were advised to order 'anything we wanted' rather than choosing from a set menu! So impressed were we that we failed to establish whether this was now hotel policy, rather than our good fortune!
Given its prime location and convenient parking, coupled with helpful staff and the new owners' evident determination to raise standards, we feel that Fisher's fully deserves our continued patronage.

Room Tip: Quieter rooms face south, over the garden.

“Improving hotel, but please get wifi.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2012

We booked here for a 3 night break for New year. I've stayed here before and was a bit worried about going back, as it was a bit run down, however, I was pleasantly surprised. There has obviously been some investment into the appearance and decor of the hotel. It retains a traditional feel, however, it is fresh and modern. The rooms we had were adequate, warm and comfortable. The only down side was that in room 111, there was a large amount of dust hanging from the lightfitting. It was the first thing we noticed when we entered the room and I was a little surprised that the housekeeping staff hadn't noticed it. It was pretty obvious. Apart from that, the standard of cleanliness was good. Staff are generally friendly and polite, although when we checked in, the lady on reception told us we had yet to pay our for rooms, which we had already done through Travel Republic. This worried us and when we checked again with another member of staff, she confirmed that we had, indeed, paid in full already! We were on a bed and breakfast basis. The food was very good. On New Years Day, there was an excellent brunch buffet which included standard cooked breakfast stuff, but also things like traditional mince, cans of irn bru and bucks fizz, all of which was well needed after hogmanay celebrations. We ate in the hotel on one evening and found the food to be a bit uninspiring and on the small portion side, but acceptable. The majority of the clientele do appear to be mature, coach trips, so maybe not the place for young people, as breakfast time did have the feel of being in a nursing home dining room!! This hotel is perfectly located in the heart of Pitlochry and I would certainly consider going back again - but only if they have wifi. Another local hotel, which to me isn't quite so high a standard do, and they also have a computer you can use, so time for Fishers to move with the times!!

Room Tip: Room 111 is directly above a toilet, so the hand dryer noise can be a bit distracting.

“Christmas Festivities - Dont Make Me Laugh”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 December 2011

I booked with my 14yr old son and sis and brother in law for 4 nights to spend Christmas at the Fishers Hotel. We have stayed overnight on a number of occassions and had no real complaints, The Hotel has new owners, not that we would have known who was who or in charge to deal with any issues, but that was the least of our disappointments..... The room were covered in some muddy green paint or chintz wallpaper, the food was distinctly average, though I couldnt rate the cheese and biscuits course as we couldnt find the cheese... frozen grapes and a 2cm piece of celery, or the veg as one very small floret of broccoli and califlower , 2 small potatoes doesnt allow much tasting. Dont take children or teenagers unless they can eat 'food' that doesnt require your own teeth. But worse is yet to come - Festivities included a different singer, distinctly average at best, each night - no room for dancing, ran out of Baileys and didnt have any the next nights,, AND staff who very obviously didnt want to be there. There was no ambience or atmosphere it being Christmas and certainly no festive Cheer. My son was rather depressed by it all and no effort was made to cater for his nut and egg allergies at dinner - fried Chips and battered Chicken each night was not very appetising. Christmas lunch left a lot to be desired, plastic turkey. I know you'll gather I wouldnt recommend this hotel but you'd be wrong, I'd recommend it turned into an old folks home and not a up and coming Hotel. Needless to say we wont be back not even for an overnight stay such is our disappointment.....

Room Tip: Room 206 has 2 double beds and is a good size for the price
