“Great Scotish hospitality”

Arriving at Pitlochry by the caledonia sleeper (rather like travelling in a cosy bunk bed) at the crack of dawn the owner was there to greet us - what service. A wonderful cooked breakfast awaited us and we felt ready to head out for a good walk. Beautiful countryside and just opposite the hotel runs the river Gary with an infamous spot called the Soliders Leap - I am still pondering how he could have jumped 18 feet across the river to avoid the enemy! Delicious food in both the bar area and the main restaurant. As we left on the late sleep train following night to head back south we were able to try both. We didn't make it to the shopping centre at Bauer which other guest where raving about so next time perhaps we should come by car and explore a little more. Loved the detail at this cosy county house hotel and the warmth yet very professional service.

Your visit was during one of my most favourite times, Killiecrankie for a private party. The hotel lends it'self so well to being 'lived-in' by one party of friends for a couple of days, and it was so kind of your to recognise this with TripAdvisor. Thank you so much! Next time - if you haven't the courage to try the Soldiers' Leap, at least try the Bungee Jump 300 yards further down the River Garry! With best wishes from all at Killiecrankie Henrietta

“Truly excellent”

I have read many of the reviews below and there is not much we can add that would be original. What more can you say than this is a gem of a hotel, more like an old fashioned country home which welcomes guests. Small enough to be intimate, welcoming and personal, but big enough to offer all the privacy you may wish for.

Henrietta Fergusson is so much more than the owner of the hotel, she has that knack of making you feel special as a guest and, by the time you leave, a friend. The young team that work at the hotel could not be kinder or more attentive, and work hard to make your stay as good and as fun as possible.

It is the small touches of detailed attention that lifts Killiecrankie above most hotels we have stayed in, including some of the grandest and (so-called) ‘best’. We spent Christmas there and it could not have been more ideal. We had our dog with us, and we have to say that she has never enjoyed a hotel more, and has made a friend of Beanie, the resident cocker, who generously shared her toys. The beautiful garden and the surrounding countryside, including the Pass of Killiecrankie, made for wonderful walks for all.

There is an incredible generosity behind every aspect of Killiecrankie House Hotel, you leave feeling you have been spoilt and cared for. It is a rare thing, a place with integrity and kindness and of excellence.

Another one one that slipped the net - I am sorry not to have replied sooner to your very kind review. It was so kind of your to write so eloquently about your experience here and we do look forward to a return visit. Beanie goes into a decline when we close for the winter months in January so my time is taken up with occupying (exercising) her and refurbishing in equal amounts - thus my missed response!

“A Christmas Gem!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2011

We stayed here for six nights, which included the Christmas break package. Our arrival was greeted by a christmas tree beautifully lit against the dark night sky, the lovely tree and decorations inside the house, help with our luggage and, of course, Beanie, the resident cocker spaniel, who obviously likes living there! Our cosy room, the hot water bottles in bed, the bath robes and luxury toiletories, made us feel quickly at home. The cosy bar and sitting room were great places to meet other guests and the choice, quality, taste and presentation of the food served in the dining room, with it's welcoming fire, was excellent throughout our stay. Christmas Day lunch was a highlight. Service was attentive, but unobtrusive and always delivered with a smile. The archery, live music from a Scottish fiddler and accordianist, a walk to the Moulin Inn, a treasure hunt and the team of friendly staff, all helped create great house-party which we loved.

“Outstanding”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 November 2011

We stayed here for one night and loved it. From the moment we walked through the door we found the staff really friendly, from the owner right through to Beanie the resident spaniel. The gardens look lovely, even if the miserable weather meant we didn't get to use it! Our room was spacious and really clean, perhaps missing a bit of wow factor. To be fair we were in a standard room. The hotel has a nice bar area, providing a fine selection of malt whisky. Dinner was fantastic and good value and had a great wine list. The complimentary cheese board is a great idea and the after dinner coffee and home made chocolates in the sitting room were delicious. The evening was rounded off with another great touch. Not only a turn down service but hot water bottles in bed too! In the morning breakfast was great. The small things such as freshly squeezed orange juice and home made bread made it special. Well done!

“Great place - highly recommended.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 November 2011

I travel regularly for business and stay in what are considered "luxury" hotels but what a treat to spend some time in a place that can provide equally good quality with a friendly personal service. Killicrankie House is a lovely hotel outside of Pitlochry. In our all too brief stay we enjoyed wonderful food with excellent service. The room was perfect - it had everything we wanted - the best hot chocolate I've tasted. We even had furry hot water bottles left on the bed when we returned to our room after dinner. We will definitely be going back next time we are in Scotland. If nothing else, to make a fuss of Beany.

Thank you thank you! It was lovely to meet you and I hope very much you will be able to stop for a more relaxing (longer!) time next time. Beanie would certainly appreciate it and so would we, as we do your taking the time to review your stay - again, thank you!.
