Arriving at Pitlochry by the caledonia sleeper (rather like travelling in a cosy bunk bed) at the crack of dawn the owner was there to greet us - what service. A wonderful cooked breakfast awaited us and we felt ready to head out for a good walk. Beautiful countryside and just opposite the hotel runs the river Gary with an infamous spot called the Soliders Leap - I am still pondering how he could have jumped 18 feet across the river to avoid the enemy! Delicious food in both the bar area and the main restaurant. As we left on the late sleep train following night to head back south we were able to try both. We didn't make it to the shopping centre at Bauer which other guest where raving about so next time perhaps we should come by car and explore a little more. Loved the detail at this cosy county house hotel and the warmth yet very professional service.
