The MacDonald's Guest House is centrally located in Pitlochry and we enjoyed walking on the shopping street and checking out the very nice shops. This hotel was spotlessly clean and our room was on the top floor and was en suite and included a kettle and preparations for tea and coffee; which we enjoyed after dinner.
I believe the owner greeted us upon arrival and showed us the hotel. He was polite and gave a good explaination of how to work the locks, and when breakfast was, etc.
We returned fairly early in the evening but after the restaurant had closed, the main entrance being used both for the hotel and the restaurant. During the night the hotel was nice and quiet and although the evening was quite cool we were snug in our room.
Of all the beds in Scotland which I became familiar with over a two week period this mattress must be the absolute worst. Sleep was fitful and no position comfortable and some positions felt dangerous lest a spring fly through the covering and impale the one lying on top. I was further dismayed the next morning as I read over the comment book while having early morning coffee in the room. Many comments, over a significant period of years were aimed at the same, now nearly infamous mattress....it's past time to improve the bed with a new mattress and (hopefully) a box spring underneath.
Breakfast was very good. A nice variety served promptly and efficiently. I wished the waitress would have smiled, even briefly as she was having a busy time of it.
This is a nice place to stay, the rate is reasonable and the facilities will score an 85 out of 100 with me only because of the dodgy matress.
