we booked through bookings.com i think this may be why the room we were allocated was not great (letham ) The room was cold throughout our stay, despite the radiators being turned up full. The view from our very draughty window was awful i.e a train station and road. Curtains were not properly hung from the window, cheap net curtains, no drinking water in the room, the shower had very little power, the water was only lukewarm despite this being the middle of winter. Towels were tatty, the carpet was badly stained. There was also a lot of noise from rooms upstairs due to creaking floor boards. We opted for continental breakfast which at £8.00 each I though excessive. Only food on offer was toast, small boxes of cereal and fuit salad. There were no pastries, croissants, rolls etc. On a more positive note the staff were lovely and very helpful. Also the hotel was clean although decor very dated. Parking on this day was very limited and the spaces very tight. Also city centre is a good 10/15 minute walk not 2 as stated. We ate in the restaurant which was very quite. The food and service were excellent although very over priced. Definately not four star i would rate maybe 2 to 3 star

We note the comments above but are unsure of many of them, Firstly the window is double glazed and has a new net and well hung (not cheap) curtains. There is a raidator in the room and should you feel cold, there is an additional fan heater in each room if required. The view from your room is that of a standard room which would be the type you reserved, it is of buildings and roads because we are in a town. There is drinking water in all rooms. You have 2 shower heads in each bathroom both of which produce a high pressure shower and gallons of hot water which is heater 24 hours as day. Cannot locate any staining on carpets? Towels constantly replaced when they become too worn. There is only one room above Letham and we do have the odd creaky floorboard. Continental breakfast is £7.95 and includes Cereals, toast, crossiants, pastries, 5 types of fruits, plus a fruit salad, yoghurts (fruit and plain), cheeses and unlimited coffee and tea, we think this is very good value. All our food is priced at a level you would expect to pay in a hotel that has 2 rosettes for dining. We have 25 parking spaces in the car park for a 15 bedroom hotel and it can be busy at times. from the hotel it is a 5 minute walk into town, max 2 minutes by car. Thank you for your comments on the staff and I am sure if you had addressed these comments to the staff they would have been more than happy to help. We are pleased that you find the hotel very clean and as you can see from many picture on our website and others the decor is not dated, contemporary is a word more offer used. As we are a 4 star hotel by both the AA and VisitScotland we work had at maintaning these standards this also means we are selected for many of the top guides. We would be more that happy to invite you to stay at the hotel again and go over these items with you.
