“If you can book somewhere else!!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 February 2011

We stayed here for 1 night over valentines weekend. We had tried to book other hotels but they were either full or way too expensive. Check in isn't until after 4pm which is quite late I think but we tried checking in about 12.30 but our room wasn't ready so we went down the town. The main part of the hotel is nice and has been modernised however after what seemed like a trek to get to our room (they couldn't have put us further away if they had tried) we were utterly dissappointed with the room. Its very old fashioned with a tiny tv which hardly worked and the smallest double bed in the world.

Then there was the bathroom!! Noisey extractor fan which stayed on for ages after switching the light off, the toilet took an age to fill up and was also very noisey, cobwebs and cracked ceiling. The shower was barely attached to the wall and you needed a degree in rocket science to work it!!

On the plus side the breakfast was very good and the staff were very friendly.

We only paid £65 for the room so didn't expect too much however I did expect it to be a wee bit better than it was. The tarriff said £120 when we were there and think I would have asked for a refund if they had charged us that!! Booking.com emailed my husband to say that the Lovat said we hadn't turned up and they were going to charge us £85 for not cancelling our booking, he quickly told them that we were there and had the scars to prove it!!

I'm usually pretty open minded about hotels however we won't be back!

second stay at this hotel, we paid £65.00 for us both bed and breakfast, the room was a bit old fashioned but clean and warm, staff are friendly and no problem making us supper as we arrived quite late, the breakfast was lovely, just one complaint though, the night porter had put salt in the sugar bowls, but the lady rectified this as soon as we brought it to her attention

“A let down with a few redeeming factors...”

Stayed for one night with my partner as an early Valentine's present. Booking and check in were very easy and the staff were very pleasant and helpful, however the room was a complete disappointment. The decor was very dated, there was only a tiny old TV in the corner and there was a serious lack of electric sockets. The bathroom was small, and the shower near impossible to work which was very frustrating. We were kept awake well into the early hours with noise coming from a function downstairs. Breakfast was fantastic, a good selection with again very good service and check out was smooth. Overall, disappointed with the poor quality of accommodation having paid £68, would have been better in a Travel Lodge where we'd at least have got a modern room, however the good service and food do make up for it to an extent.

“Ok, but not recommended”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 December 2010

Stayed for 8 nights in November. Rooms was small but warm and clean. Shower was rubbish - old electric unit, but with the controls outside the shower cubicle! Took some practice to get right - and didn't work when the toilet cistern was filling up.

Breakfast was good. Hotel doors locked at night and had to wait ages for a night porter.

“no excuse for a hotel this bad”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 October 2010

This hotel has been in a time warp, so far as upkeep is concerned, for about the last 50 years....really no excuse for a hotel to be in this poor shape. But more fundamentally, I question whether this hotel was ever satisfactory. Our room was tiny -- barely enough room for the bed. The mattress was worn to the point that it sagged, even before we lay on it. Given the cramped quarters, it is not surprising that the rest of the furniture was sparse....and cheaply made. Few outlets in the room: to connect a hair dryer, you had to disconnect something else. The bathroom was really appalling: the shower NEVER worked, despite 15 min of tinkering with it. It was absolutely impossible. Worst was that when we asked for some assistance to get it working, no one ever came. The bathroom was bare-bones: no shelf to place anything needed in the bathroom. Tiny, easily broken, plastic cups for drinking. And a creaking floor that groaned every time we walked across it (although the room was so small that you couldn't take many steps anyway - a clever device by the management to minimize the problem?) This hotel was so bad that we took the unusual step for us of leaving 2 days early......there is really no excuse for such a shabby hotel in Scotland, reputedly part of the 21st century in the western world.
