When booking this hotel I looked at the website to look at the pictures of the hotel because I am not a fan of the older looking hotels and with the pictures it made the hotel look modem and stylish. The day we arrived in Perth after 6 hours on the train, we took a taxi and arrived at the Lovet Hotel, Perth. The receptionist was happy and very welcoming, which was very pleasant. After the train journey we got to the hotel just after 2pm we were aware that we couldn’t check in until 4pm however we asked if the room was ready which it was so she let us check in early, which was fantastic after the long journey. Our room was in a part of the hotel that to me felt like an old house next to the hotel. We were told the way to get to the room was up the stairs and then down the stairs back to ground floor, this was not easy with your bags, however she also said an easier route which was to go out side and around to the side of the hotel to what was called the white door, so obviously we took the easy route, luckily it was a dry day but if it had been raining it would not of been pleasant. This part of the hotel was called the ‘Villa’ a message to the wise if you have to book this hotel STATE that you do not want to be in the villa, as it felt like miles away from the hotel, you could not pick up the WIFI signal and if you were out past 11pm you had to got all the way through the hotel, inconvenient if you had been out that night as it was a lot of stairs up and down.
Whilst walking around the hotel there were wires tied in bundles all round the ceilings we were later told that they were for a new fire alarm system, this immediately concerned me as it gave me the impression that the existing fire alarm was either faulty or not working.
Room 226
We opened the door to a room that had an extremely strong smell of paint so the first thing we did was to open the window. We went to make a very needed cup of coffee after so long on the train and within one mouth full the cup was empty maybe get mugs? One massive problem I had was when I went to fill the kettle I found it had with old/stale water in it now this is a massive NO NO so before we could make the coffee we had to empty it and refill it (which was a problem with the sink we had as the kettle was too big to fit under the tap) and boil it to make sure it was clean then empty and re-boil for our cup of coffee now this is wrong on every level (Who had the room before and what could have been put in this kettle)??. Anyway the room it self was a little dated with a picture that was horrible and verged on the line of creepy only worth going into the bin.
We went out around Perth and for anyone Perth is just fantastic, we loved it. When we arrived back at hotel the front of house team had changed and again we received a warm welcome. We had our dinner at the hotel and when we received it the food was okay, value for money not so great and the plate was way too hot. Anyone in the trade will know that the plate should be warm to keep food warm but not too hot. The food continued to cook with the heat of the plate.
We went for a shower and I was APPALLED at the state of the only area to clean yourself as there was mould in the cracks of the door, on the tiles and all over the grout. How hard is it to clean properly, I mean really all you had to do is get an toothbrush or a small brush and CLEAN these areas. After having to have the window open earlier in the day (but couldn’t leave it open due to the window opening entirely) with the smell, we felt the room was chilly when getting ready for bed so went to turn the heating up and the control unit on the radiator fell off in my hand, by this time I was getting incredibly CROSS so I went to phone reception, they were helpful and apologetic they immediately arranged for a portable heater to be brought to the room. I had by this time begun to think and started to check the room and NONE of the equipment in the room was ‘safe’ all of the PAT testing was out of date by at least a year but on the iron the PAT testing was last done in 2004 and under health and safety this is totally unsafe, do they have a fire risk assessment???. Anyway we got into bed to find a massive stain on the under side of the bedding I do not wish to sleep in old sheets you could just tell it hadn’t even been changed from the person before I found it revolting. At this point I was ready to check out but due to the front of house staff being so helpful I stayed. The dust in the room was so thick my partner wrote (please clean me) in it (we had to take a picture of it of which all will be posted). My partner was up most of the night vomiting due to the smell of paint, odourless paints would have been a much better idea.
Next Day – I woke up to the sound of my partner still being ill she had had no sleep I was FUMING by this point but we got a shower and that was the same as the rest of the hotel HOT AND COLD. We went for breakfast and this was consistent with the food from the night before, however service was some of the best I have ever had. The staff knew about my partner not feeling well and they went out there way to make us feel welcome. Whilst in Perth town when I went to the pharmacy to find something to settle my partners stomach I actually bought front of house staff a box of chocolates to say thank you. Anyway they changed our room for the second night of our stay and we were put into room 215, when we went into it immediate impression of it the room was a lot nicer but again PAT testing all out of date and the dust just as bad. However it didn’t smell so that was better. Anyway we had dinner again and still the staff were fantastic and actually made a smaller meal of choice for my partner the food was okay. After dinner we went for a shower of which was over the bath it was ok for us but not adequate for the older generation. The bathroom floor was not a none slip floor and I got out the shower even though I had put a towel down it was like walking on ice and I fell and hit my head on the bath. I was going to say to the staff but at this time I just wanted to go home, the next day we got up had the paid for breakfast and left, I just did not want to stay anymore, to the point I had paid for trains at 2pm but we got the 10am one to Edinburgh.
My stay here was AWFUL luckily the front of house staff were great to me and my partner. I have taken photos of everything we saw I will post some but if you would like more then feel free to contact my self.
I would strongly advise against staying in this ‘accommodation’, I however will mention this hotel has signs around the place saying ‘best western’ it is not part of the best western chain.
After our stay we emailed the director of the hotel and after two emails to him we received no reply or compensation for our appalling experience, this sends out a message he does not care about the hotel and explains why the hotel may as well be closed down.
