“Ideal wedding venue”

My daughters wedding in Sept was just brilliant. We had exclusive use of the hotel for the weekend. The food was fantastic. The staff were very attentive. The rooms were very spacious some more than others. So close to the city yet far enough away to feel you were on a weekend break out in the country. The grounds are beautiful so much could be done with the grounds. The best wedding venue ever - its a shame that the hotel is supposed to be closing down, think they were hoping that there was a buyer for it soon. There is so much potenial, if I had the money I would buy it .

Room Tip: All the rooms I saw were lovely

“wedding”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 August 2011

melville castle is a fairly imposing building set in fantastic grounds away from the madding rush of edinburgh. the reason why we stopped there was to attend the wedding of my wife's neice. the whole affair from start to finish was 1st class. the staff always more than helpful. the food was fantastic. the rooms were a gd size. the only downside to the whole experence is that the castle is closing as a hotel at the start of next year, and this showed in the fact that the decor needed renovating and the fact that the tv's in the rooms did not work. otherwise it was the perfect place for a wedding.

“Awful. Tired and badly needing overhaul in every area”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 July 2011

Went to the same travel event as one of the previous comments. The corridors were dirty, walls scuffed. The room had sticky surfaces which hadnt been cleaned, tv didnt work, dead flies on bathroom floor and beside windows of room. Beds were uncomfortable and hard.
Room had two skylights - but no blinds so after a late night had a very early morning.
No heating meant the room was cold and there were no tea or coffee making facilities even to make a coffee in the morning.
Bathroom shower curtain was mouldy and grouting around tiles were the same.
Despite emailing comments and asking for a response and sending a chaser email twice i still havent had any response.
NOT good!!! For the money paid stick to any of the other properties in Edinburgh.

“Sadly, very tired and in need of renovation”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 June 2011

I attended a Business Event last week at the Melville Castle Hotel, just outside Edinburgh. The Hotel and grounds from the outside is wonderful and very majestic. The staff were helpful and friendly. Unfortunately the rooms were a disaster. No heating - yes heating was required in June. The TV had not been upgraded to digital, and the phone in the room did not work. The carpet was grubby and the room itself sadly in need of gross renovation. The venue for the Event was good and food wonderful. Sadly, I wouldn't recommend staying there again
