“Don't Drink and Smoke”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 November 2011

We stayed at this hotel in the Summer of 2011 and had a "smoking room" which was excellent. The evening meals were okay but very limited choice. Breakfast was good but again quite a limited choice.

If you enjoy a drink and a cigarette don't expect to do both at the same time unless you are in your room. Obviously you cannot smoke in the bar and if you want a cigarette outside you will not be allowed to take your drink with you. No outside seating area and smokers tended to stand around the main entrance.

With some improvements to the above this would be a good place to stay.

“Pleasantly surprised!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 November 2011 via mobile

After reading all of the reviews I was slightly apprehensive about staying at the Holiday Inn Express, but I needn't have worried. The room was clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful. I would definitely stay there again.

“Terrible!”

I was looking forward to staying here as we thought it would be a good base to explore the coast and having stayed at several holiday inn express hotels before, we didn't think we would have anything to worry about. How wrong could we be?
Check in was fine, although a little disappointed that the room key etc wasn't ready on arrival which is usuallyis for priority reward customers. We headed up to our room on the first floor, and on entering the room we realised we were on the road side of the hotel and it was very noisy, not sure they had double glazing if they did it wasn't very effective at blocking out the noise.
My husband went into the bathroom to discover that some of the floor tiles and shower tiles were cracked and broken. The shower cubicle was outdated and there was also some mould around the edges. We called reception and they said they would move us to another room. Let me just say that the staff were very helpful.
The second room was worse, same problem in the bathroom and we were next door to a smoking room and it filtered through. We called reception again and they said they could give us a room on the ground floor, so we looked at that, it was a marked improvement on the first 2 rooms so decided we would take it. However after being in the room for a short time my husband who is allergic to animals began to find it difficult to breathe and we discovered that pets must have been allowed in the room and it hadn't been cleaned properly, in fact on a more detailed inspection the room wasn't entirely clean. We decided that enough was enough and we went along and checked out, the staff were accommodating and there was no charge for the room.

Room Tip: If you dare to stay ask for a room away from the roadside. If you aren't a smoker make sure you...

Very well run Hotel.Staff are always extremely helpful often over and above the sense of duty.
Good value accommodation for the weekend and a good varied breakfast added to this value.

Room Tip: non-smoking

“Excellent value Clydeside base”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 October 2011

Stayed here at the beginning of October, whilst attending a family event nearby.. The hotel is located on the waterfront, just on the edge of Greenock, and has good views of the river. Its a 10 minute walk into the centre, to a restaurant recommended to us by the staff (see separate review for The Square). Rooms were large, with comfy beds and lots of (different firmness!) pillows. Shower was hot and water plentiful. Breakfast was included; Coffee was notably good.b and the free newspapers in the lobby a thoughtful touch. All in all, I thought this was an excellent base for our trip - more economical and better standard than other similar chain hotels of its kind. Recommended. .

Room Tip: Ask for one with a river view.
