I was looking forward to staying here as we thought it would be a good base to explore the coast and having stayed at several holiday inn express hotels before, we didn't think we would have anything to worry about. How wrong could we be?
Check in was fine, although a little disappointed that the room key etc wasn't ready on arrival which is usuallyis for priority reward customers. We headed up to our room on the first floor, and on entering the room we realised we were on the road side of the hotel and it was very noisy, not sure they had double glazing if they did it wasn't very effective at blocking out the noise.
My husband went into the bathroom to discover that some of the floor tiles and shower tiles were cracked and broken. The shower cubicle was outdated and there was also some mould around the edges. We called reception and they said they would move us to another room. Let me just say that the staff were very helpful.
The second room was worse, same problem in the bathroom and we were next door to a smoking room and it filtered through. We called reception again and they said they could give us a room on the ground floor, so we looked at that, it was a marked improvement on the first 2 rooms so decided we would take it. However after being in the room for a short time my husband who is allergic to animals began to find it difficult to breathe and we discovered that pets must have been allowed in the room and it hadn't been cleaned properly, in fact on a more detailed inspection the room wasn't entirely clean. We decided that enough was enough and we went along and checked out, the staff were accommodating and there was no charge for the room.
Room Tip: If you dare to stay ask for a room away from the roadside. If you aren't a smoker make sure you...
