“Wow. What a place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

Stayed 2 nights at the Boath House hotel in Scotland. Had room 6 which is a small cottage with lounge and bathroom and shower room. Stunning. Johnny called me a couple of hours before we arrived to check I was on my way and happy with directions etc and asked if I'd like him to get the log burner going for me... Yes was the answer and when we arrived, the only guests that day, the room was snuggly warm. Check in was quick and friendly and Johnny took us to the ottage and showed us around. Parked the car by the cottage so that was handy. More logs were delivered later. Dinner is served between 7 and 7:30 with canapés in the lounge and a drink and then the full 7 course dinner. This was a point of concern to us as, being a big foodie, I usually like a menu and a choice. You can request changes if the menu doesn't suit but we opted for the menu as offered and were not disappointed. Being the only gusts on the Friday we felt very special with our own waiter and waitress and chef etc. I've noted that someone mentioned that the lack of music in the dining room meant it was too quiet. Half way through our meal we were asked if we wanted music (as we were the only guests) but we said no thanks as we were chatting Way and music wasn't needed. The 2nd night was busier and so music would have got in the way anyway. The Boath House is fantastic and we will return, it's not cheap but then, who want cheap! Our package included the full 7 course menu, bed and breakfast and champagne and chockies on arrival... Very nice and that you Johnny and all the staff who made it such a warm, welcoming and special 2 nights... By the way the road from Nairn across country to aviemore is amazing. Take your best car with you for twisting roads!

Room Tip: Go for No 6

Dear Guest,

We are thrilled that you enjoyed your stay and that you appreciated our efforts to make you feel at home. It's good to know that the new wood burning stove in the cottage is being put to good use! It was a pleasure having you as our guests and we hope to welcome you again in the near future.

Sincerely,

Sam

“Once in a while, you find a place like Boath House...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

My husband and I have stayed at Boath House on two occasions and both were wonderful. The food here really is special. On our first visit, back in 2007, it was February and particularly quiet - I think for our first night we were the only guests. Rather than feeling uncomfortable and feeling, as others have said, that we should whisper politely throughout dinner, we actually thought it was quite special; we had this wonderful place to ourselves to enjoy for the night! I remember we had booked Room 3, which has the fabulous side-by-side free-standing baths, and we decided to make the most of these before dinner.... Just as we'd run the baths (patience- they are huge) the phone in our room rang - it was Don, the owner, asking if we'd like to join him downstairs for a wine-tasting as he'd just had a delivery from a supplier. Downstairs we went, and proceeded to spend a very merry couple of hours with Don & Jonny tasting/drinking loads of wine. By the time we staggered back upstairs to get straightened up again for dinner, our giant baths had been freshly re-filled and prepared again for us. This was all followed by superb food and a nightcap in front of a blazing fire. Does it get any better?!

Our second visit was just as special - we were on honeymoon following our wedding in Scotland. The food was consistently excellent and the wine list had some great choices on it (obviously!). Also worth a mention are the breakfasts - hearty & delicious and served using locally made pottery, some of which you can buy while you're there (the hotel is a big supporter of local artists and most of the eclectic array of art on display can be purchased - a lovely memento).

Scotland has so many great hotels & restaurants - Boath House, in it's own quiet way, is right up there with the best of them. You leave knowing you'll be back again one day, and hoping it will never change.

“Like having your own mansion”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

From the moment we came up the drive, Boath House was an epic refuge in the storm. A warm fire, a great living room, and immediate attention awaited us.

The art throughout the house is incredible. As incredible is the taste and care with which it is located. The house feels uncluttered but full of treasure.

The Orangery, in which we stayed, could not have been more to our taste. The quality and placement of furniture and decor were perfect, and all the little touches were there to help us relax.

The dinner was well worth it to us - the best food we had on our trip.

Thank you, Boath House, for making our last night in Scotland!

Room Tip: Make use of the photos on the website to choose your taste. The Orangery is below ground, but does...

From the moment you arrive, the staff is attentive, charming and caring. The 20 acres surrounding (with lake, english garden, herb garden and walking paths) are relaxing and beautiful. From Charlie's kitchen come an amazing array of offerings that are of "Top Chef" quality and presentation. A visit to the Boath House is a total refreshment of body, soul, and spirit!!

Room Tip: Room 3 overlooks the lake and grounds, has a lavish bathroom, and is purely elegant. Every room has...

“Go on.... treat yourself”

or better still get someone else to treat you!! My son bought me and my wife a dinner for two at Boath House for my 60th birthday. We had never eaten in a Michelin star restaurant before but if this is truly the standard you get then it will not be the last time. The standard of food and service was just first class and as an earlier reviewer pointed out the wine list has some very reasonably priced bottles for this quality of establishment. Boath House is a beautiful building and I would be quite sure that we will visit again but hopefully in the spring/summer when we could take advantage of the surrounding grounds. Unlike some earlier reviewers we did not feel the need to whisper whilst in the dining room and the detailed description of each course by the staff really made for good conversation.
My wife left her gloves behind when we left and they were duly delivered to the nearby hotel where we were staying. Next time we will be staying at Boath House. Well done to Johnny and all other staff.
