“We really enjoyed our stay at the Corran”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 August 2008

We really enjoyed our stay at the Corran Inn.
Our room, albeit quite small, had a lovely view over the loch and had been recently done up.We were told that they are doing up all the rooms to this standard. It was decorated and furnished in a stylish contemporary style and the bed with white egyptian cotton linen and warm cosy duvet was sooo.. comfortable. The bathroom was quite small but big enough, with the nice touch of a heated towel rail and luxurious soft white fluffy towels. Above all, it was all spotlessly clean.
We also enjoyed our meals at the Corran which were homely and reasonably priced and we found the portion size just right. Breakfasts were also plentiful and very good, esp the Mallaig kippers.
The bar, despite its outside appearance, was always very welcoming and friendly. We had a lot of fun in there sampling the whisky and ales and chatting with the barmen and locals and other guests. There is also a comfortable lounge with a good selection of books where It was very nice to to sit and relax.
We always found the staff very friendly and helpful and very attentive to their guests, in particular Ed who looked after us so well during our stay. Top marks for friendliness!

“Read The Booking Conditions!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 August 2008

This is by way of a warning to Tripadvisor users to check booking conditions carefully. I made a reservation with this establishment but had to cancel - nearly 6 weeks out from the due date. I was told that my deposit (£25.00) was not refundable under any circumstaces as this was company policy.

OK, I didn't spot the 'Policies/Terms' link at the very bottom of the web pages - but this condition was not pointed out to me at any stage during my phone conversation with the inn, nor was it e-mailed to me with confirmation of my booking (my initial enquiry was by e-mail). It would be reasonable to expect that my deposit (less minor admin costs) would be returned to me if the room was re-let at some stage in the intervening 6 weeks. But no, even if they replace the reservation these people are happy to take money for doing nothing. The Inn claimed that this practice was standard in the industry, but it certainly is not - and I would say it is sharp practice.

I was prepared to try this place despite the very poor reviews but this really leaves a bad taste in my mouth and it is wholly unlikely that I would take up their offer of transferring my deposit to another booking.

“The Pits”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 July 2008

Sunday the 29th June

On our way back from Fort William, rain lasing down and desperate for a bite to eat and a coffee we saw the sign for The Corran Inn.
Looked around for the bar, when we saw that it was infact a lean to shack we should have known better.
We ordered a sandwich, toasted sandwich and two drinks; to start with we couldn’t believe what we were charged. And when my toasted cheese sandwich came it was so thin, I couldn’t see any cheese in it. We didn’t complain… although I wanted to. Anyone else reading these reviews, please be warned they are true. This has got to be the most appalling place we have ever had the misfortune to find on our travels.

“BUMs Glencoe Trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 June 2008

Our walking party of 10 stayed at the Corran Inn for 4 nights in June 2008.

The Inn is in an excellent location for visitors wanting convenient access for the Glencoe / Mamores / Nevis ranges, and has great views of the surrounding countryside.

The Inn looks a little dour from the outside, but is very welcoming inside, with open fires and a good standard of furnishings. The bedrooms are comfy, well decorated, and have all the usual facilities.

The owner, Andy, is very knowledgeable regarding the local ranges and walking routes and gave us some good advice and tips regarding how we might best tackle our days on the mountains. This place is just right for serious walkers, as Andy will make breakfast at any time, and they have a drying room for your kit.

The bar is brilliant, a real gem, a proper country bar; none of the sterile big corporate template here, and it is well stocked with single malts, which we greatly depleted during our stay. They also offer real ale which is kept in excellent condition.

Food is homemade fresh and wholesome - we can recommend the venison steak in a port reduction and the kippers at breakfast. Food can be eaten either in the bar, or in the dining room which has great views from the windows, and an open fire too.

All the staff were very helpful, Martin the barman actually fixed a pair of spectacles for one of us. The waitresses were more than happy to take group photos for us as well. We could be quite demanding when we all piled in starving after a day on the tops but the staff kept up with all our wants cheerfully.

Overall, excellent value, very clean, unpretentious, and highly recommended.

“Place of character with great hosts”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 June 2008

I have just returned from a 4 night stay (B&B) at the Corran Inn with my wife and a party of good friends and had a great time.

The accomodation was warm and clean and the food good with a wide choice. Breakfast was as good as any I've had and the supply of tea and coffee endless! We walked miles, the evening meal portions on our return were more than adequate for hungry walkers and the quality was great. If a pig-out is what you want then perhaps previous reviewers should have avoided a good restuarant and instead opted for a fivers worth of chips from the local chippy. We were a party of 10 who dined well and used the resturant for 3 of our four evenings in Scotland, which say's it all I think.

And to cap it all, we also were given expert advice and support from the Owners when choosing routes and destinations. We walked miles, bagged a number of Munroes, and made good use of the well stocked bar on our return (which by the way is quaint and has character and history, if only those using it bother to ask!).

A great location, holiday and accomodation - I hope we will be able to return again soon.
