“Home away from Home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

I would stay at this B&B in a heart beat again! The staff went above and beyond, I asked a simple question about what to do in the area. The next thing I knew is that the receptionist had printed all the information I needed to get there! It was a great help. I was a single traveller and the house felt like being at home. The livingroom and couch was very cozy after a long day out.

“Very Nice Place....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 December 2011

I have stayed at Distillery House many times over the years, often with small groups, and I have never received a negative comment or complaint from any of my colleagues. I personally have never found anything to complain about.

Yes, some rooms here are small, but by traddition B&B rooms in Britain tend to be small, especially the shower cubicals that can be microscopic. This is a feature not a fault.

The quality of the beds and linen here are excellent.

The breakfast menu is quite extensive and the dinning room is such that if one really needs to chat wil other guests over breakfast one can. Personally I prefer to wind into my day gradually and quietly over the excellent coffee thay provide.

In short, it really is a case of "horses for courses". If one is using the B&B for an overnight stop it is fine and perfectly adequate. If you want to hold a disco or conference in your room forget it.

Looking at the occasional adverse/negative comment from contributors, the observation is that these people should be staying up the road in the Deluxe 5-star castle..... and paying between £300 and £600 a night for it !.

“Friendly Owners”

We stayed here for two nights in July 2011.

Quite close to the main road - but is still quite picturesque - close to the river.

There is a nice outside area with a wooden deck and a play area for kids - which was a nice touch.

Breakfast is served buffet-style - bit of everything included.

The rooms are quite small and the ensuite bathrooms even smaller. It's OK if you do not plan to spend much time in your room as it does feel quite cramped.

Wi-Fi kept dropping out which was annoying. There is a computer by the front desk though - where you can use the internet.

“External looks deceive”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 November 2011

This accommodation was very disappointing. Externally it looks like a distillery but that's the only connection............. not even a photo to be seen. We found the rooms extremely small. Almost as if they had gutted the building and fitted as many matchbox rooms into it as possible. We even had to decanter our clothes from our suitcase into an overnight bag as the suitcases would not fit up the stairs. (Even if they had of fitted up there - there was absolutely no room to store them). My husband is quite tall (6'2") and his feet hung out of the tiny double bed by about 6" and he could not shut the bathroom door when sitting on the toilet as the bathroom was so small. The price charged was premium but the room was not worth it.The very average dram of scotch was in a tiny water glass and the free shortbread was the mass produced supermarket type with the plait and sugar on top. yuk! I can see why they took our money before we entered the House. If I had to find a possitive it would be the cleanliness and proximity to town. The breakfast was quite good although the ambiance was not as you were told where to sit and there was no possible way to converse with other guests. We also asked for a glass of ice and think we must have been the first guests to ask such a strange question!!

Room Tip: Check out the bed size before you pay.

“Cute rooms and friendly staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 November 2011 via mobile

The room was well furnished and quite comfortable. The breakfast was great. Just a short walk into town. Don't be fooled by the name, there is no connection to a distillery, but you do a get a complimentary dram of whiskey.
