“Good Bunkhouse for exploring the area and Ben Nevis”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 July 2011

Calluna is a nice little bunk house and ideal for exploring Fort William area and Ben Nevis - We had a twin room which was basic but fine - bathroom facilities fine as were kitchen - lovely views from the front room but very uncomfortable chairs for TV watching .. Boo - We shared with a family in the larger room and a couple of girls from France in the third room - Nice chance for some chats or hellos in the communal kitchen - All facilities are basic but then its what you expect of a bunk house - Good option and very reasonable price! - They have all facilities for storing boots after walking and drying clothes after walking too - Try the Crannog Fish restaurant on the water in Fort William -- Lovely food and great views across the water -

Room Tip: Id go for twin option if possible and there are two of you so you get some privacy

“Great bunkhouse”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 March 2011

I stayed at Calluna for a weekend winter climbing and walking trip. It was a bit of a last minute thing and I managed to get a bed in the Alpine Loft bunkhouse for two nights. I wasn't looking for the Ritz, just somewhere clean, reasonably priced and with half decent facilities. Calluna ticked all these boxes and more. My main concern was having somewhere secure to leave my kit during the day while I was out. This wasn't a problem as the room is lockable and you'll most likely be sharing with a few other friendly climber/walker types anyway (although do remember everyone will probably be getting up at the crack of dawn to get out on the hill, particularly in the winter!) There's a clean kitchen with everything you need and an excellent shower. The loft upstairs where you sleep is really dinky but nice and clean. There's a proper drying room and for climbers, well there's a bouldering wall downstairs if you need your fix. It is a wee hike up the hill from town but you won't mind it too much after a couple of pints in the Grog & Gruel.

“Brilliant as usual”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2011

No complaints whatsoever.

We stayed in one of the 8 person apartments. We were a group of 3 (a couple plus a mate) and planned to do some winter climbing so booked the two twin rooms so as not to disturb the other guests when we got up early.

The apartments are warm, well equipped with heaps of storage space - just perfect for climbers/walkers with lots of kit. The kitchen is a good size and well provided, there's even a cafetiere which is great for helping you wake up at 6am! There's a spacious lounge for relaxing in after a day on the hills.

The hostel also has two excellent drying rooms which means you'll not have to worry about going out with wet kit.

With great facilities and helpful knowledgeable staff I can do nothing else but recommend this hostel fot hill goers and non hill goers alike.

“Above your average hostel...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 August 2010

Great place. Owners are mountaineers themselves and helped me with hiking boot repair, orienteering books, even box for mailing unnecessary things home so I wouldn't have to haul them on backpack trip into hills. Wonderful place.
