Hi All, Just got back from a short break at the Moorings Hotel and thought I would give a little review.Firstly arrived late Saturday afternoon and checked in and was quickly shown to our spacious room. Everything was fine and had a very large comfortable bed which was great as I've stayed in some other nice hotels that were let down when it came to getting a good nights sleep because of the bed.The hotel was quite quiet when we were there mid November which was fine for us as we just wanted a short break to chill out. The views from our room of Ben Nevis was beautiful and Neptunes Staircase was right outside our window and we had a few lovely walks along the canal. The food in the hotel was lovely, you could eat in the restaurant which you would book during the day or you could have a Bar Meal which we decided to do on the first night, I had the Fish/chips which was very nice and light and my wife had the Irish Stew which she said was really nice followed by Sticky Toffee Pudding, great. The Bar Meals were really good. On the second night we booked a table in the restaurant and again the meals were really good, I had scallops on a crab cake, lovely, and my wife had twice baked goats cheese which she said was a little to dry, (my wife is a very fussy eater) for mains I had Pheasant wrapped round Wood Pigeon, my first time trying this and it was really nice even if the gravy/sauce was very strong even for game but still very good, my wife had the lamb which she asked to be really well done ( I know, she ruins all her meat by overcooking) when it came back with the slightest of pink in it, that was it for her( told you very fussy) The chef was probably squirming at having to overcook the Lamb but there you are.The staff were all very friendly and even when one of the waitresses was having an off day as she said herself, knocking our fork off the table, bringing red instead of white wine, she was still very friendly and really nice. You have to like a walk at this hotel as there is not much round about, we had a nice walk to F/W about 4miles as we had deliberatly left the car at home and got a Taxi back, but beware, if you are going to get a Taxi from F/W to hotel, we got one from rail station to hotel on arrival, cost £8.80, on departure cost of Taxi on the same trip in reverse £6.40, so if you decide to get a Taxi ask price first and dont pay any more than £6.40. If you take your car this is a great hotel to use as a base as there is a lot of places to visit by car. Overall this is a very nice hotel, clean comfortable rooms, great food, and really nice staff, ( even on an off day). Would I stay here again, Certainly would.
Room Tip: Rooms 22, 23, have lovely views of Ben Nevis, Neptunes Staircase

Thank you for posting a review on trip advisor.
It was nice to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us . I am glad you found the time to explore the canal and the nearby walking routes that are so often missed, thank you for your kind comments regarding the hotels location and views which of course we agree with.
I am delighted you enjoyed meals in both our lounge bar and one rosette restaurant, they offer very different dining experiences and I hope you don't leave it too long before returning.
Kind Regards
David Macdonald
