Good hotel located close to train station. Friendly welcome. Good bedrooms.

Our experiences of a stay in September 2011.
I really didn't have the time to spend putting comments on here until now but I feel I must warn others what this hotel was like.
During our 10 day touring visit to Scotland, in hotels, shops, cafes, filling stations / garages we only encountered extremely helpful staff wherever we went, except here !

The whole accommodation area had a fusty smell. The landing / passage carpet was worn through. I never managed to see any of the other rooms but our room 225 was something from the 1970s. The enamel on the vanity basin had worn through to the base material. The cleaners were doing an excellent job in keeping this dated establishment looking presentable.
I got the impression this hotel is only a money making factory for directors at head office who rarely visit the place.

The good point,,,, the food at both the evening meal & breakfast was excellent

After a long days travelling up from North Devon, we stopped off in Fort William and we're pointed in the direction of The Alexandra, by the Tourist Information office. We booked in for one night, and loved it so much we ended up staying another two nights....

Check in was a doddle, With friendly, smilling receptionist's.
The Room was large, extremely clean and very, very comfortable.
We left DND sign on the door when we went out, and we're impressed with the efforts that Housekeeping had mad to ensure we had everything we needed by leaving clean towel's, tea's; coffee's and other bits and bobs out side our door.
Breakfast was Excellent, with enough varity to satisfy everyone.
Dinner in the evenings was incredible value fo rmoney, and of a very high standard, and could be served to your room for a small charge which was worth it after a long day's walk in the beautiful Glen Nevis, and a few wee drams in the bar. The Bar staff we're Fantastic!!!

Booked a last minute single room and was pleasantly surprised when I arrived. Lovely large room with very comfortable double bed. Plenty of space , Large clean bathroom , Lots of tea , coffee and chocolate making facilities. Breakfast was first class. Lovely fresh grapefruit and nicely cooked full breakfast.
Would definately recommend this hotel excellent location and far cheaply than a lot of ordinary B&B in the local area.
Added bonus was able to connect to WiFi in room although also available in the lounge areas.
