“Great hotel, good food”

A real gem, don't be mistake the Roy Bridge Hotel in the same village for the Stronlossit, they are poles apart. The Stronlossit hotel, and its owner Maurice provide a warm welcome, good food, fine ales and the obligatory scotch, including some Japanese rarities!

Tripadvisor lists this as Fort William (which it's not, thank goodnes). Roy Bridge is out in big Glen Spean, majestic Grey Corries mountains abound. Don't miss fantastic Glen Roy which turns off to teh North of teh village, with its ice age glacial lakes.

You won't be disappointed by Roy Bridge area nor the Stronlossit Hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a view of the grey corries

“No complaints here!”

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights on our way to Inverness. Must admit we are a bit perplexed by the reviews on Trip Advisor as they seem to be mainly 5 star or 1 star - not much in between. We had a lovely stay and found the proprietors very friendly and helpful. The hotel itself is very comfortable and the food was delicious with generous portions. The fact that the restaurant was well-used by locals says it all really.

We travel up north regularly and, although this was our first stay at the Stronlissit Inn, hopefully we'll be back.

“one of the worst hotels in the world.”

This hotel was actually awful. Not only were the staff completely and utterly rude and unhelpful (apart from the older ladt waitressing and the french worker they had in), and even made a fuss about the fact that we wanted an extra pillow!
The food was horrendous, seriously stuff i wouldn't even feed my dogs as it was all simply reheated in the miscrowave, was soggy and bland and there were next to no vegetarian options.
I had to stay here whilst at a funeral, and staying at the appauling hotel made an awful week even more unbearable.
If you have any sense, you will avoid this hotel like the plague.

“What a relief!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 September 2011

After reading most reviews, I was very worried about this hotel. We booked it as a package, along with other hotels on our roundtrip in Scotland, so we had no choice in the matter.

Boy, was I relieved when we arrived and the owners, Maurice and Sandra, turned out to be very friendly and helpful.
I really don't understand all other reviews that said Sandra was being rude. Because she was very relaxed, friendly, making conversation with us and wishing us good morning if we passed her in the hall.
There were always a lot of people dining, also from other inns or campsites, and from the village. Nobody seems to have a problem with the owners, and nothing happened, the two nights we stayed there.

When we arrived, I was pleasantly surprised with how the outside looks. The building is painted a vanilla yellow with deep red accents. There is a large garden with a pond, and many ducks.

Check in at reception was fast and efficient. Sandra showed us to our rooms, and apologized when a door slammed into my suitcase (totally unnecessary, as I should've held the door better).

The rooms were quite nice. They obviously were recently updated and quite light and spacious. My room had a lovely view over the gardens and the ducks, while my parents' had a door leading into the gardens.

The TV was a little inconsistent, reception wise. Sometimes reception was good, sometimes it lacked. But that's okay, we were just there for two nights and I had my laptop.

We had dinner in the hotel/pub every night. Service was very good and fast, and the food was amazing! A lot of choice, and very well prepared. The steak especially is very good.

Breakfast was standard but good, full English that can be ordered from a menu, and toast.

Wifi is free and available in the entire hotel.

I would definitely recommend the Stronlossit Inn. It is close to Fort William, which is nice for a little shopping, and from there you can take a drive along Loch Linhe and see some amazing views (like Castle Stalker). Ben Nevis is also very close to Roybridge.

“Incredibly unprofessional”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 September 2011

Unfortunately, I had a nose to nose row with the owner of this hotel after we chose to check out after the first night. The room was not up to standard and we chose to leave after one night rather than stay for the full 6 that we had booked. The owner insisted he would charge us the full 6 nights even though we had provided the cancellation deposit in advance. Effectively we stood to pay £385 for one nights accommodation in a sub-standard £55 per night room. The owner would not negotiate with me, instead choosing to walk away repeatedly and leave his staff member to resolve the issue, which she did thankfully. Overall, the hotel is overpriced, overrated, and run by a very unprofessional and unreasonable owner - customer service very much comes second at this establishment. There is a lot of choice for hotels and B&Bs in this area, look around first!
