“Average facilities in a hard to access locations with rude staff”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 September 2011

Don't get me wrong this place is not that bad,as hostels go its pretty average and the double ensuite room that we had was clean and equipped with the basics that you would expect, the bathroom was tiny but functional and as we only stayed there 1 night I cannot comment on the rest of the property as we did not get a chance to use it.

Location wise as its situated in Corpach which is a suburb of Fort William its around 4 miles from Fort William itself with the buses running few and far between so you really need to plan ahead if you intend on going out and about at certain times or meeting deadlines as they stop at quite a early hour as well but this wasnt really a problem for us as we walked/got a taxi in and out.

The only negative thing I can say about this property really is that the man who greeted us at upon arrival who I assume is the owner was very rude and had a terrible attitude,he seemed to have a problem with people in general and acted like he had a grudge against human interaction which surfaced its nasty head a few times when we firstly we arrived earlier than we had anticipated and were told we couldnt check in which was fine but it was the way we were told it and secondly when we asked if there was room for us to stay additional nights,he basically said to us no fully booked you can go now, dismissing us like we were a servant or something, but we don't let things like that get to us and we just remember to avoid staying there again.

All in all if you want cheap, basic accomodation for a night or two whilst in the vicinity of Fort William with easy walking access to the Loch & the Caledonian canal/Neptune staircase then this is a good location but if you want to be in the heart of things and value customer service above other aspects then you may want to consider alternate arrangements.

“It´s ok to stay here for an one night”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 August 2011

This hostel is actually not in Fort William, but about 3,5 miles from it, in Corpach. Which is ok, if take notice of that while booking. I didn´t. But it didn´t matter, I just got additional walk but I had a very enjoyable stay there. The staff is ok, if not very friendly then professional at least. The room was ok, enough hot water in the showers and kitchen good enough too. There´s no drying room, or rather it is, but I couldn´t use it, because it was used as some kind of cubby-hole by the staff. The price was very fair and I got a good rest there. Excellent place for a backpacker to spend a night.

“Would not recommend.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 June 2011

I certainly would not recommend this hostel. I came to the hostel with a group of friends for a walking weekend. 2 people were unable to make the trip, 6 days notice of this was given but we were still fully charged for their stay while the hostel re-sold one of the beds.
There was no one on reception in the morning to give any advice or information.
We arrived back after our walk soaked to find the heating didn't work and on informing staff, no effort was made to fix the heating. We had booked in 10 people on the 2nd night and one of those beds was also re-sold leaving us less a bed for a person. On informing the manager of this my friend was then treated disgracefully. The manager would not listen nor discuss the issue nor admit that he was in the wrong.

This is the worst hostel I have stayed in due to their appalling customer service.

“Brilliant hostel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 June 2011

I stayed here with a large (24) group at the end of may 2011 we arrived late on a Friday night for one night before attempting the three peaks challenge. I found that kirsty, who i dealt with for my whole booking, was friendly, accommodating, helpful and professional throughout. When i met her on arrival, late at night, she was very pleasant and helpful. The accommodation itself was clean, comfortable, quiet and very nice. For £15 per night I thought it was very good indeed. I'd happily recommend this accommodation for anyone looking for a hostel in fort William.

“Farr Cottage Manaager / Owner should never have gone into hospitality Industry”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 May 2011

Farr Cottage itself was OK. Very worn but clean and warm. However, the welcome we received from the owner / manager was non existent. He was rude and narkey. His assistant (possibly his daughter) was also rude and unhelpful. We would never return to Farr Cottage and would advise everyone to give it a wide birth.
