“Absolutely Horrific Stay”

Where do I start??

Kirsty and her Father who run this Hostel, have to be two of the most ignorant, rude and downright nasty hosts I have ever come across.

On arrival to this dated and fairly run down hostel, we were told outright things we were not allowed to do. When we asked questions the said owners pretty much spoke to us like we were idiots. The rudeness we encountered was incomprehensible. At some stages they did not even turn their head to look and answer directly to us, "Kirsty" played her game on the laptop while rudely giving us an answer, then later on preceded to complain and give out about the leader of our group who had not yet turned up.

WE WERE ON THE VERGE OF GOING NEXT DOOR TO A GORGEOUS B & B TO STAY THERE.

Rooms are basic, toilets which u share with 7 others are tiny. We were not allowed use sleeping bags but we did because the duvets were absolutely disgusting and we wrapped clothes around the pillows because of the stains. Bar closed early due to the fact we were told by the owner he had lost his license so we ventured down the road to a lovely pub run by actual Scottish friendly people.

I can write forever about this place..... mainly the disgusting rudeness we encountered. Thank god we left the next morning bright and early, earlier than anticipated to get away from the place, put a complete dampner on our first night of our trip.....

I would categorically advise everyone not to stay here.
Bad vibe in the hostel, bad service, bad decor, disgusting bed duvets and sheets, everything stinks.

So Kirsty and your Father if you are reading this PLEASE get some customer service skills so that other people do not have to suffer at your hands and put a dampner on their holiday,

Room Tip: Stay in the B&B next door

“Would Definately not recomend!!!”

After climbing Ben Nevis on 10th Septmeber in attrotious weather. We arrived at Farr Cottage to a very frosty owner who sat us down and talked to us like we were 5, I am nearly 40!! The location is lovely, the rooms were clean but very small, but enough to put your head down after a very very long day. The staff were very rude and watched our every movement. I have stayed in establishments that would swallow this place up and I must say this was the worst ever cheap accomodation I have ever ever stayed in. It dampened our glorious day. We work for SCottish & Southern Energy who had given ys the day off to raise money for a little boy who needs an operation in the US. One of the group tried to share what we had achieved with one of the younger staff who replied by saying "SO WHAT" !! We did not feel welcome and they did not make us feel welcome. God Knows how they achieved 4* for a hostel. I will be passing around a company who employs 25,000 staff and friends and family that if they want to stay up this area, give this accomodation a wide berth.

“What a disappointment”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 September 2010

After a long walk up Ben Nevis, our team of 11 arrived at Farr Cottage to a chilly reception and what I can only describe as a lecture about the rules of the house. From then on, we were treated with disdain and the level of service was atrocious. We were scowled at, talked down to, ignored and insulted. The place has its own bar, which is fantastic, however when you're standing waiting to be served while the staff are watching YouTube on their laptop and ignoring you, it soon became apparent that our we would be hard pushed to find a good quality about Farr Cottage. I can only speak from our own experience, and perhaps on a better day, the owners and staff might have been friendlier, but this was a real disappointment.
Admittedly, the rooms were clean and the location beautiful, but these were the only redeeming features for us on a day when we were all exhausted and needed a friendly place to bed down. As I say, perhaps they were having an off day, but to describe this place as 4 star is very misleading. Possibly the worst experience of Scottish hospitality that I have come across.

“very good value for money”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 September 2010

We stayed in a double private room with shared bathroom.
The room and the bathroom are very very small, but the price is unbeatble (34 gbp per night).
We had a small drawback with owners, that were not to be found and 8:30 am when we wanted to chack out... we just had to go in Fort Williams, have breakfast and come back...
Try to use the common kitchen to make your own breakfast because all other option are very expensive (we tried a very fancy cafè in Fort Williams and ended up spending almost more for breakfast than for sleeping!)
As the area (expecially the Glen Coe) is all so stunning an so overpriced, I'll be back again in Farr Cottage!

“Scottish hospitality”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 August 2010

We travelled trough England and Scotland since a half-year. We have seen lot of different places and stayed there mainly for a couple of days. We truly have to admire that Farr-Cottage is a category by it's own! We love to be here, have a chat and a laugh, enjoy the fantastic hospitality, just to know that the staff give there best for their guests. Everything is very clean, tidy and intact! Thank you so much for this great time, hopefully we see us once a time in Austria :-)
