“Warm Welcome, Amazing Breakfasts, Lovely Hosts”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 October 2010

Coming from the sunny south-east on an 8 hour train journey for my friend's wedding, I was pleasantly surprised to find my host waiting for me despite late arrival. Room was spacious and clean, which is the most important thing for me! Sue who helps does the most amazing breakfasts, and they even let my fionce (who was staying in a nearby hotel) come for breakfast - so nice!

The two nights I spent there were lovely, it's literally right next to the city centre (ignore the reviews complaining about the steps, they're tiny - if you're from London, you would climb more stairs running up the escalator from Bank station!) yet nice and quiet.

In conclusion, great value, lovely food, lovely hosts.

“Standard B&B”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 September 2010

We had some problems, but they may have been unusual. The rooms were pleasant. The breakfast was the usual Irish breakfast. We came on the train and it is a steep walk to the house up several flights of stairs from the train station. It's not bad unless you are carrying suitcases. When we arrived, no one was there so we had to go to another house to get let in. Except at breakfast there never seemed to be anyone around. We had to leave early in the morning and could not find anyone the day before to pay. We had to knock on the door for manager the morning we left. She insisted on packing a breakfast to take with us. It wasn't bad, just a little inconvenient.

“We wouldn't stay here again, but...”

The Crown Hotel is really not that bad, but we wouldn't stay here again. There are some positive points about this B&B. The hosts and staff are very warm and friendly. Both the house and our room were clean. They also had a comfortable lounge for guests to share, which is unusual for a B&B. The breakfasts were decent but not great. However, this place really only deserves two of its three stars given by the tourism board. (It has three stars because it has a lounge.) Even though our room was clean, that is really the only nice thing that I can say about it. The bed was hard as a rock with terribly itchy sheets. The layout was inconvenient because the roof sloped greatly, so we hit our heads against the ceiling often. There was also no place to put toiletries in either the bathroom or the bedroom. It almost felt like this space should have been for storage instead of a bedroom. The location of the B&B was not very good. Though it is within easy walking distance of everything in Inverness, the neighbourhood does not feel safe. (If you do stay there, avoid Rainings Stairs from 16:00 onward because of the antisocial kids that hang out there.) I am very sad not to recommend this B&B, especially because the hosts and staff were lovely, but it's just not a nice place at which to stay.

“KC's favorite place in Scotland”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 October 2009

A 21-day trip to the UK and Paris had us traveling far and wide. The days we spent traveling to and staying in Inverness were the most delightful. We traveled in September and the countryside was so beautiful. As we traveled toward Inverness we could feel the weather changing. The heather in the fields, the sheep grazing on the mountains and in the distant you could see snow on the mountaintops. The city of Inverness is quaint and the people are wonderful.

We stayed in the Crown House which was only a few stairs from the downtown and a little further to the castle. This establishment was top-notch! It was by far the cleanest place we stayed in while in Europe. The breakfast was to die for and the wonderfully hospitable host could not have been better.

There is tons to do in Inverness and many side trips are available. If you are going to Scotland, you musn't miss Inverness and be sure you stay in the Crown House.

“Not too bad..”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 October 2009

We recently stayed at the Crown Guest House in Inverness for a couple of nights. When we arrived, there was a note telling us to go down the street to get someone who had the key to let us in. That was a bit disappointing and frustrating after carrying luggage up many steps to Ardconnel Street. After finding the lady to let us in, (turns out she was the mother of the person who owns the Crown Guest House) we found ourselves struggling up many more flights of stairs to the very top floor of the guest house. Our room was clean and large enough, and the beds comfortable. The bathroom, however, was very tiny and the sink was barely large enough to wash your hands in. We only met the owner of the guest house by chance one day for a minute on her way out the dor. Seemed friendly enough. The lady who takes care of the guest house, Sue, was very kind, pleasant and friendly and loved to carry on a conversation. She was so busy, though, with the cleaning, serving breakfast, etc. that she didn't have a lot of time to mingle with the guests. The breakfast area was very nice and the choice was excellent. Enjoy either a full cooked breakfast or just cereal, fruit, etc.- it is your choice and Sue eagerly and happily prepares it for you. The Guest House is only about a three minute walk to the center of the town. However, there are a lot of steps to climb down to get there so if you are not in fairly good physical shape, you might want to call a taxi. Overall, the Guest House was adequate and Sue was awesome!
