the website photos do not do the public rooms justice. they have beautiful original features. the B&B is very warm and cosy with beautiful views over the River Ness. it is within easy walking distance of the town. the B&B has parking but the gate is closed at 9pm. parking on the street is by meter but free between 4pm and 10am.

the owner was very friendly, bubbly and informative.

the room had a great view of River Ness. the bed was squeeky with two very flat hard pillows. the room had two small chaiirs, kettle, tea, coffee, hot choc, shortbread and fresh milk. there was also a small quiet fridge which the milk was kept in.

the breakfast was good but for the main course it was either a full Highland or boiled, poached and scrambled eggs. I would have liked something else other than eggs eg pancakes or even French toast (I know it's still eggs but a wee bit different!).

the ensuite was very small. the sink was too big and the shower cubicle was very small with lots of discoloured grout and mildew. there was only a Scottish soap supplied no other toileteries. the soap did not smell very nice.

the Alexander was clean, warm and inviting. the only negatives was the small ensuite with the mildew and the pillows. a great priced B&B.

We stayed at The Alexander in August 2011 and were disappointed with the size of our bedroom which was on the small side for £94 for a single night. We were also hoping for a better view.

Having said that the owners were very friendly and welcoming and the breakfast was amazing. Very delicious Scottish home cooked food at it's best.

My fiance and I have stayed at the Alexander twice now and are planning to do so for a third time next week. This bed and breakfast is infallible. Fiona and Graham are the nicest, most welcoming people.
The Alexander sits only a few metres from the banks of Loch Ness in such a picturesque setting right in the middle of the city. To sum the sight of the river at night in one word - stunning.
Both times that we have stayed we have been very impressed with the cleanliness of the rooms and on-suites, theres nothing we could find fault with whatsoever.
The last time we had arranged to go to the Alexander it was, I believe, February 2010 when we had terrible snow. I had called Graham and Fiona as we feared we would not make it! They were fantastic about everything and because they were so helpful we did manage to drive, albeit slowly. They kept us updated with travel and weather conditions which was greatly appreciated.
We could never bear to stay elsewhere. It would feel as though we were cheating on the Alexander!

Wonderfully comfortable beds, spotless rooms, delicious breakfasts (try the smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, made with eggs from the happiest hens on the planet) - what more could you ask for? Choose a front room, and you've got the most delightful view of the river, complete with twinkling lights on the trees outside. We always stay here when we're in Inverness, and we've never ever been disappointed. A real gem.
