“never again”

We had a reservation with hostlelworld.com/ryanair. They gave us a tiny room in a private sort of guesthouse with no staff to keep the other guests, that were noisy teenagers, in check: it was quite far from the central location (in the busy uphill road in front of Inverness castle), the shared shower didn't work, found lots of somebody's hair in the uncomfty bed, the door didn't work properly, we couldn't even left the luggage for a couple of hours after checking out, unless it was in the shared bathroom. Just avoid it's really miserable.

“Look elsewhere”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2010

I stayed here for three nights in January 2010. Staff did not have my reservation (although, in all fairness, I had booked the place the night before). The hostel itself is up two flights of winding stairs; keep this in mind if you've got heavy luggage. They only take cash, but require your credit card information (which I'm starting to wonder if I should have given). My bed in a private double room had hairs on it from the prior occupant. Wi-fi in the common room was NOT working more often than it was working; same goes for the TV (nobody could figure out how to turn the TV on). The hostel was relatively quiet (except for the first night, when I assume the entire floor heard the looooong conversation of a drunk couple breaking up). Staff was friendly. Rooms were warm. The shared bathrooms seemed clean enough (no en-suite rooms available). Overall there seemed to be nothing absolutely horrible about the place, but nothing great either. You get what you pay for--my advice would be to definitely pay a little more and look elsewhere.

“Hopeless Service and beds”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 October 2009

Service - not helpful, reception is closed more than opened, can be abrupt, wasnt helpful when turned up at wrong time
Beds - some bunks were held together with electrical ties, others had no bottom legs and were sitting on floor
Sinks in room out of use

Whole hostel could do with a little more love and care

“Average hostel”

I turned up at 8 pm in Inverness, looking for somewhere cheap to stay, and was glad just to be certain of finding a bed without too much phoning around.

It's in the middle of the city, about five minutes walk from the Ness bridge, close to the main shops. The reception is on the 2nd floor, with other dorms on the 3rd floor (I'm from the UK - the entrance is ground, not 1st floor). Staff are reasonably friendly, if sometimes a little busy. Forget about any twin rooms unless you book ages in advance, but there are quite a few 6-bed dorms which are OK. Decor is your standard hostel style, as are the bunk beds - I've seen better and I've also seen worse, but for 12 pounds for a night's sleep it' all seems fairly priced.

Not somewhere I'd race to go back, but if you're watching the pennies and are arriving in town late in the day, it'll do for a night.

“Not bad”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 June 2008

Stayed in hostel for 3 nights with my partner and best friend. Hostel in an excellent location and good price. Hostel needing a good clean though, not great when you need to pull hair out the plughole! Beds not the most comfortable and rooms were a bit hot especially after a big sesh the night before!

Would recommend to those wanting to travel or stay in the "Ness on a budget.
