“mindblown!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 October 2011

Have just come away from spending a week at Atholdene. quite simply put, it is the finest B&B i have ever visited. The rooms are spotlessly clean, well kept and extremely comfortable. The service is unsurpassable, Fred and Penelope are extremely caring and attentive hosts who just go out of thier way to make you feel not just welcome but really valued too. oh thats a good point, breakfast........ RAWR NOM NOM NOMMMMMM, its plain fantastic. a variety of fresh juices, cereal, and "breakfast" fruits including bowel lacerating prunes. Also on the menu is the apparrently famous full scottish, for the lighter side there's scrambled or poached eggs and so on. If thats not quite to your particular tastes i was reliably informed by the lady of the house that kippers and other things of that nature were available upon request.

In this modern era of the Jobsworth, inflexible, rigid and indifferent attitude, tripping over a place like Atholdene House really is a revelation and i would not ever hesitate in reccommending this beautiful guest house to anyone and everyone planning to visit Inverness in particular or the highlands as a whole.

Now comes the critisism.................

Fred, that vase, you know, the brass one in the breakfast room, right hand side of the fire? No. just no ok! it looks like a WWII german bomb and has all the appeal and cultural impact of said device!

cocking a wink at Penelope.........................

levity aside, to sum it all up, amazing owners, fantastic guest house. If you dont visit, its your loss!

Room Tip: uh! well, any of them. i was in room 4 and i found it brilliant

“First Class”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 October 2011

Stayed here several time for business over the past few months and could best describe it as a home from home. Relaxed atmosphere, friendly, sociable family but not too intrusive. Always willing to help or offer advice and very knowledgeable about the Highlands/Scotland as shared with all guests. Quality furnishings in the bedrooms, clean rooms and comfy beds. I love my food and can only say that Fred and Penelope serve the best breakfasts in Scotland. Quality produce, fresh and piping hot to your table. In my opinion, they undercharge compared to other venues in the city.

“We loved this place!”

My sister and I stayed at the Atholdene House for 3 nights on our trip to the Scottish Highlands. Inverness is a perfect central location to do a variety of activities and day trips. The family is very welcoming and knowledgeable about places to visit in the area. The rooms were beautiful, and the breakfasts were superb! This place is also a short walk (maybe 10 minutes) from the train station and city center. My sister even left some artwork in our room, and Freddie mailed it all the way to America. Wonderful service!

“jim and karen b had an excellent time at atholdene house”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 September 2011

Our hosts were most gracious and helped us get there by patiently giving directions and finally waving me in. Fred provided excellent recommendation for entertainment (the Hootenanny which gets two thumbs), Fred said if you want a table book dinner which worked out (otherwise stand all night, food was good). We stayed two nights and had two excellent breakfasts and enjoyable conversation with the other guests. The area around Atholdene house makes for an enjoyable walk. Also, Culloden fields is fairly close and a must see.
