“Good Location”

The best thing about this hotel is its location and yes there are areas where the could make the place better but for an overnight at the price it's not the worst place i've stayed in Scotland. We had a back room 219 it was spacious and onsuite and had large flat screen tele. The room was clean and yes there were some staines on the carpet but i've seen the same in higher stared hotels. Only real gripe was the towels they leave them on a shelf under the wash basin. The shelf is wooden and a bit damp the bottom towel was damp and stained. We opted to eat and drink out as the bar and restaurant prices were a bit high. The staff were mainly foriegn but did there job well and were always pleasant. The breakfast was ok but I personally prefer a buffet breakfast and if you don't like something its not on your plate. Would I stay here again ? Yes but only if i had to.

“Value for money hotel but expensive food.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

Quite a charming small hotel located very near and within walking distance from Inverness town centre. The hotel has some great features including a reading room overlooking the river Ness and a small cosy old fashioned bar with a real fire. Cleanliness was excellent all round. The hotel does need some renovation and updating. The bathroom was very old and the light switches from the 60s / 70s. Quite a few bulbs needed replacing. The tv in the room had awful reception and kept shutting down. The remote did not work. The hotel is very well heated. Nico’s bar served high quality food but was very expensive for what it was. The shepherds’ pie @ £10 was no bigger than an airline meal. The soup said it came with homemade bread but it didn’t arrive. It was difficult to get the waiting staff to come over. All of the staff apart from the receptionist were foreign and to be honest lacked any warmth or friendliness / smiles. It would have been lovely to have some real Scottish hospitality. Breakfast is included in the price but the bacon was like rubber and the sausages were just a cheap pork sausage. Maybe I have visited too many hotels now and watched the hotel inspector too much but this place lacked a few simple things which they could do to improve and enhance customer’s stays. Over all it was a very reasonable price for the room if you pre pay. Late rooms.com offers the same price. Just one final thing, the sign at the front of the hotel says reception straight on but you actually have to do a left then through the front door. A little confusing. Would I stay here again? Yes for the price and the cosy bar it’s not bad just not great.

“Excellent staff. Poor room.”

Staff were absolutely fantastic. Nice restaurant, with good if not spectacular food. The breakfast alone (recommend the 'highlander') is worth the stay.

However, badly let down by the room. I was put in 'the cottages' - a seperate building in the hotel. The room was extremely tiny with old fashioned radiators. The only window looked into a building shaft. There was no phone, and the window had been freshly painted - causing the entire room to stink. Basically old fashioned and very Fawlty Toweresque. Pity, as everything else was very good.

I'd stay here again, but ONLY if I was guaranteed one of the newly refurbished rooms.

“EXCELLENT STAY!!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 December 2011

Ideally placed hotel on the banks of the river Ness, a short walk from Town, or any local amenities. Easy parking outside, we were very early so were allowed to drop our ags off in reception before returning later.
Friendly receptionist -
Our room was located adjacent to the main part of the Hotel - It was a lovely cosy room with a clean comfortable bed and normal bathroom with the usual bits and bobs.
Tea and coffee making available in the room.
Great nights sleep - !
Breakfast was very good - everything that one would expect. Staff on duty in the morning were very friendly and helpful

NO COMPLAINTS AT ALL

Room Tip: MAybe away from the main hotel in the event that there is a function on...!

“Gone Downhill”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 December 2011

What a disappointment! We have stayed in this hotel on numerous occassions but not in the past 5 years. I was really excited to see a Groupon offer and looked forward to the break. The room was absolutely dismal - carpets black round the edges, mould in the bathroom, poor TV reception, air-block in the radiator and ridiculous sliding door wardrobe you couldn't get to the clothes rail!

The receptionist was disinterested.

The wee bar is lovely and on our first night it was busy (2 Christmas functions on) but on the second night we arrived back at the hotel at 10.30, having ate in an excellent local restaruant (The Kitchen), went for a nightcap, bar was empty, wood burner had been allowed to burn out and we were told the bar was closing in 30 mins!

The breakfast was freshly cooked to order and the meal in the restaurant was decent but nothing to right home about. Our waitress was a local lady and she was the only staff member who was friendly.

Won't go back.
