“not good check-in experience.”

we recived a voucher as a present from a friend for 2 nights with breakfast and one night dinner, as we were confused how the voucher worked we asked the lady at reception, who looked at us as though we were mad and said "well I dont know... I just take the voucher". eventually we understood what we were to do once we phoned the person who we recived the voucher from.
While checking in, the lady at reception was given a bowl of soup (well, it looked just like a bowl veg to us) then said "yeah this is what us workers get for dinner... a bowl of THAT!"..... we didnt choose the veg broth as soup of the day that evening after that comment.
clearly the receptionist did not want to be there.
dinner was pretty good to be honest.
the room was ok looking apart from marks on the wall and wall paper peeling but we were somewhat disappointed as there were no coffee/tea refresments in the room.... I find that rather strange

“Perfectly Enjoyable Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

My husband and I spent 2 nights just a cheap deal to get away and relax. Having read a lot of the reviews i didn't know what to expect but for what it cost us I paid my money and took my chances! I was very pleasantly surprised it was not disgusting or filthy a few things could have been better but as a head housekeeper i cant help but look. I agree about the heating it should be more controllable and we also had a room over the boilers with the railway line and the A9 in earshot so ear plugs where a definite must for a good nights sleep. The bed its self was very comfortable with extra bedding if you needed it. There was always plenty of hot water with a good shower and deep bath. I didn't want the room serviced and left the DnD sign up it was nice to find fresh towels and beverage supplies in a bag outside our door when we got back. The staff where always very pleasant and greeted you with a smile. I will definitely be looking again for winter deals next January when we are looking for a short relaxing break after Christmas

“Terrible service and Icy Car Park”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

Almost two hours for 2 courses to arrive at table is ridiculous, yet that's how long my wife and I waited for service at our evening meal. The food was fine, but the links between the kitchen and the waitresses were hopeless... we weren't the only ones to suffer. Earlier Trip Advisor posts have mentioned this issue, but we had our fingers crossed. The drinks were at least as expensive as Paris, which is ridiculous, and the room was barely warm enough, being plagued by cold drafts. Not a good experience - EAT OUT!!

Breakfast was much better and was piping-hot on our first day (but lukewarm the next) - there was plenty of quantity and variety and self-service meant that we got to eat without reliance on the staff.

On the morning we left, much of the car park was covered in black ice (circa 8.15am on Friday the 20th Jan), yet there was no attempt to spread salt/grit. The reception staff seemed indifferent to the issue and were neither warning guests, nor even placing a warning sign at the door.

Our room was small, but ok, apart from shabby furniture and some grimy corners. The shower was great. The duvet was strange, it seemed to be filled with something like kapok and wasn't very warm and certainly not luxurious. Rain during the night caused gutters to overflow and the cascading water made enough noise to wake me - it wasn't heavy rain and so I assume that this is a maintenance issue.

All in all, a two star performance, although exposing guests to the possibility of a nasty fall is unforgivable at any rating. Fortunately we had a KGB deal and so we paid only a fraction of the normal rate, even so, we wouldn't return.

“Not the best on offer”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

Stayed here with colleagues while on a business trip.

The hotel is a bit gloomy from the outside and some large pot-holes in the carpark - not at all inviting but inside the foyer it's was nice enough. Very efficient lady on the desk when we arrived.

The room was small and had, I think, been partly refurbished. The carpet was new, the bathroom looked to have been retiled fairly recently. The wallpaper was a bit patchy and the paint work could have done with the odd touch up here and there. The sink the bathroom had been chipped but it was resealed and while you could obviously see the chip in the veneer it was clean enough. I had a room the the side overlooking the road and was woken every night around 4.30 with the sound of water in pipes banging away behind the headboard. Inverness in January isn't the warmest of places and I was disappointed that I couldn't control the thermostat on the radiator, it had only a couple of settings and switched itself off meaning for around an hour in the evening it could get pretty cold before it switched back on. The cups weren't changed unless you left the dregs of the tea/coffee in them, but the sachets of coffee, shortbread and milk in my room was replenished daily, however that wasn't the case for everyone and one of my colleagues had to ask for milk twice in a four day stay from reception. The breakfast was very good, and the requested poached eggs were tastey.

One real benefit was the use of the small but well appointed gym, pool and sauna/steam room. Much better than sitting in the room watching the TV - the stations are not tuned into the standard Freeview channels so be aware as I tuned into what I thought was a 'normal' channel and found that what was on had nothing to do with the channel I was expecting. Certain channels would also loose the signal and freeze which could be frustrating.

I think there are better hotels in Inverness but I've stayed in a lot worse than this one.

“Refurbished rooms”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

We did get the refurbished rooms and they were fine, if small. Nothing could prepare me for the shock of the state of the outside of the building. It could not have been painted for 10 years, why?

I declined the £20 breakfast but needed to eat at lunch time, the restuarant was closed? I was told I could get a bar snack which was a piece of processed beef in stale, I kid you not, white bread and only £14 when bought with a bowl of soup and a coke.

Friday night had a disco that went on till three in the morning as loud as you like in my first floor room and on Saturday night when I returned from my restuarant at 11.00pm, the bar was closed and I couldnt get a night cap.

The location, next to a near falling down budget tyre shop and a DFS finish the whole experience off nicely. AVOID.

Room Tip: Ask for the refurbed rooms they are at least clean.
