“Great Christmas present.”

We were given a voucher for a Champagne Lunch for christmas. It was one of the best ideas ever.
My husband phoned and made all the arrangements for our visit. As soon as we stepped through the door we were treated like royalty, nothing was too much trouble. The lunch menu had a good variety of choices, something for everyone. We were delighted with our choice, the portions were smaller but full of flavour. Bye the time we had our desserts we were pleasantly full. We had our coffee in the lounge, by the fire soaking up the atmosphere, it was heavenly.
We are already planning our next visit. If you are visiting Inverness, this has to be a must for you, you won't be disappointed.

“Highland Hospitality at its best”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

Booking the room was an easy process by telephone
Great welcome at reception and bags taken from us by the staff member who then showed us to the room. Room was exceptionally comfortable. No fiddling with kettles, sachets etc - tea delivered from kitchen. Massive jacuzzi bath and bathroom floor under heated. No booking time for Dinner- anytime between 7 & 9 pm.Food was reasonably priced , good portions and perfectly cooked. We wouldn't have managed to finish the 4 course table d'hote at £49. Delightful amuse bouche of sweetcorn soup with a hint of chilli oil. Wines & drinks were reasonably priced ; had half bottles too (as well as a good selection by the glass).
Breakfast was all served by staff ( no self service)- wonderful choice and all items locally sourced . My wife's favourite eggs benedict wasn't on the menu but I'm sure that the chef would have done it if asked.Food beautifully cooked too.

“Friendly staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

The best feature of this establishment was without doubt the staff. A reasonable description of the building would be shabby chic. Dinner was good but not outstanding and if you are having a pre dinner drink beware the eye watering cost. The bed was extremely comfortable and apart from the room light being too dim we were satisfied, having paid a very realistic fee via LateRooms we could not have expected more.

“Disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

We have stayed in Culloden House last year September and it should have been the highlight of our first trip to Scotland. In our eyes it definitely wasn't. All other places, B&B's and Guest Houses, were far better.

After something went wrong with my reservation via email the reservation office tried to still make a stay possible and gave us a suite for a reduced rate. The contact was always quick and friendly.
Driving on the grounds of Culloden House is very impressive as the house is very beautiful from the outside. Coming into the hotel was a little disappointed as you are expecting a big hall but it is just a small entry area. But it is a historical building so the hotel has to make the best out of it. The welcome was a little strange and the man at reception was kind of funny. He brought us to our room via a side entry (felt more like a delivery door as it was kind of dirty and stuff was standing around). He carried our luggage but was bumping it into the walls and the banister. We tried to take one of our suitcases but he didn't let us carry our luggage.
Our room was very spacious with a separate lounge and bedroom. The bed was huge, looking nice as it was decorated with Scottish Plaid. Unfortunately with a closer look the plaid was kind of dirty and had stains on it. But otherwise the room was clean. We had a view to the front yard which was very nice, especially when the bagpipe was played.
Unfortunately the toilet wasn't working properly during our stay and even after telling it wasn't running as it should. The same with the Bose radio that wasn't working. Honestly we wouldn't make a big fuss about all of this but this is a very expensive hotel and they are claiming for a high standard. And they don't full fill this standard in our eyes.

The atmosphere is very formal but if you like this it is ok. It wasn't our taste but that is a very personal thing. Dinner was good but not better than in any other place we have eaten in Scotland but much more expensive. Breakfast was ok but in a place like this I would expect fresh fruit and not canned fruit. Staff seemed to be rather inexperienced and sorry, chewing gum while serving breakfast is an absolute No-Go for us, not acceptable in a B&B and definitely not in a 4* hotel.

In general we wouldn't visit Culloden House again and would rather go into a B&B or Guest House in Inverness. All of the places we visited in Scotland were great and far less expensive. For us Culloden House wasn't good value for money. This review is our personal view from our two day visit in this hotel. It might be that we were just unlucky.
