“Pleasant staff - noisy party - not good”

We booked a 2 night stay in an executive double room. On arrival we were greeted by friendly staff, and checked in without incident. We got our room which was in the annexe. Our room was one of the attic rooms which due to the sloping roofs was quite claustrophobic, but otherwise okay.

Due to a problem with the hairdryer we moved to another room which was much bigger and more comfortable. Shower was adequate but the water pressure was not great. The bed in the room was very comfortable.

We ate in the restaurant on the first night, it was very nice and again the waiting staff were pleasant.

On returning on the Saturday night we were informed that there was a private function booked in the annexe. This was the first we had been told of this, there certainly was no mention of this when we booked in. On returning to our room we were greeted by music so loud that we could not hear the television. This music continued to after midnight, which meant we could not get any sleep until then.

Our sole intention on this holiday was to relax and chill out, this certainly wasn’t possible due to the loud music on the Saturday night. We left the hotel on the Sunday morning, tired and very disgruntled. This experience has put us off ever staying here again.

Room Tip: Avoid room 30 if you are over six foot in height.

“Good food but poor service”

Having booked a table in the restaurant, when we arrived in the bar for pre dinner drinks we were told that the restaurant was closed on Sundays so were kept waiting for 30 mins for a table in the brasserie. Eventually seated and ordered but kept waiting for 45 mins for main course. Good food when it arrived but had not the heart to await a dessert so retreated to the bar for drinks, only to be showered by water by the barman taking wine from the ice bucket! We eventually decided to call it a night and made our way to our executive room in the adjoining property only to find that our security key would not let us in. Four couples were left in the cold night air to await someone to unlock for us! May try the hotel again but have reservations about service. NB receptionist was good at customer service but when asked if we had enjoyed our stay we did not have the heart to tell her the truth!

“Execellent Location and food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 September 2011

Stayed for 1 night on a bit of a tour of Scotland with visiting friend, location was ideal and just a short walk into town. Dinner was excellent and so was breakfast. Smaller room in Annexe but this is common in older hotels with a bit of style such as this one and no bath if this is what you require. Staff all friendly and helpful,. Excellent place to stay.

“Well worth splashing out on an executive room”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 September 2011

We stayed here on our Honeymoon, we splashed out on an executive room and it was well worth it! Huge bed, nice furniture, 2 windows with views of the River Ness, and a good sized clean bathroom with a massive shower (sadly no bath). We were very happy with our room, it was in an annexe, across the car park from the main hotel building, which was a little off putting at first, but worth it for the nicer rooms. Breakfast was nice, good sized portions without being over the top. But by far the highlight of our stay was the excellent food we ate in each of the 2 restaurants at the hotel. Abstract is pricey but the food was devine and we had first class service! Contrast is cheaper and busier but the food is cooked beautifully and very tasty! The hotel is right on the bank of the river and just a short walk into Inverness city centre, a lovely location. We will definitely be planning a return visit! It is pricey and I wouldn't of thought ideal for families but we would recommend it to couples who like fine food and wine and have the money to spend on it!

Room Tip: Splash out an an executive room if you can, well worth it in our opinion!

“Make sure you get a river view room”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2011

Our first room, number 11, was 3 flights of walking up to a room that had severely slanted ceilings, especially over the bath tub. This room had NO shower, just a tub with hand shower attachment with a very low ceiling above the tub, making it impossible to stand. The staff actually gave me the key to another room where the guest was going to be a late check-in so I could shower (kind of creepy for that guest but perhaps ignorance is bliss). The other room I used for the shower was room 4 and had a lovely view of the river and seemingly much nicer finishes and furnishings. When I woke, I was freezing as apparantly the radiator system was not yet turned on but nobody told me to turn on the cheap electric portable heater that was hiding in the tiny closet. I frankly would have rather stayed at a Holiday Inn Express. Breakfast was also mediocre.

Room Tip: River view room only! Make sure you do NOT get a third floor room as this is a converted attic.
