“Lovely Castle Hotel proported to have it's own ghost”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 June 2011

We travelled around the coast of Scotland during May and this is one of the hotels we stayed in - This was another unusual hotel we came across and had a reasonably good stay. It was lovely that they said we could look around the other rooms normally used for functions etc. They have tried to keep all features in keeping with the original castle and it has all been sensitively decorated. It was a shame that we were let down on the evening meal due to new young member of staff but they did try to make up for that by giving us a free bottle of wine. Again there was a lovely welcoming fire in the evening and overall we did enjoy our stay.

“Great restaurant, OK hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 May 2011

The hotel is OK - big room, clean, OK bathroom, the staff is nice, generally 4 out five without doubt. The restaurant in this place is what is trully amazing, a little bit unexpected I have to admit. The bread is home baked, haggis, venison, lamb - everything was just fantastic, really the level of cooking will make proud any grand restaurant in London, Glasgow or Ediburgh.

Room Tip: Dine if you can't stay!

“A fun place to stay.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 April 2011

This is a real castle in the middle of Dingwall (which is close to Inverness, Loch Ness and also) - complete with a Scottish Green Lady '(ghost), too! There are many stairs and no elevator of course, so make sure your luggage is on wheels. I had an upstairs bedroom at the top, resulting in about 4 flights of stairs windy with my luggage on wheels! ha ha. Anyway, it turned out that many American tourists come here for family reunions, or "discover their roots" - which was good, but maybe a little annoying sometimes. Overall, it's a fun fun place to stay. Especially if you go around and see the dungeons and secret passages.

“Avoid at all cost!”

I knew this was going to be "different" when on arrival I was told that I wouldn't be able to oreder room service. As a female travelling alone this is a pre-requirement and was checked on the website prior to booking. The hotel's 4* rating implies this should be possible. Only when I protested did they overturn this and I was called in my room to say they would now offer this. This refusal seemed down to a general laziness of staff to me.
However, the worst was yet to come.A room with paper thin walls next to an eccentric woman who wanted to blast Folk Music from midnight until 4am! Ignoring my protestations I was forced to call the night manager which was in vain as noone answered. In the end I was forced to get dressed at 3 am and go in search of said manager, which was again in vain.
This is an appalling environment to try to get a night's sleep before an important set of meetings and one which will never be repeated. There are plenty of better options in the surrounding area.
How they can claim 4* is beyond belief. It is more like 2* B&B quality for 4* prices.

“A lovely stay in a lovely Scottish Castle.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 July 2010

I booked 2 double rooms and was really pleased when we were told we were upgarded to a flat within the hotel.
It was fantastic. 2 double bedrooms, with the master bedroom being extra special. There was also a really nice lounge with a large fireplace with a really nice fire. There was also a small kitchen.
The food in the hotel was very good and all staff were friendly and helpful.
