We held our wedding at Ackergill Tower in May this year. Ackergill Tower has a stunning location on the North Sea at practically the most Northeasterly tip of mainland Scotland. We have been totally blown away by the most amazing weekend we have ever had. It was well worth the
schlep!
The entire team at Ackergill could not do more to make everyone feel totally pampered and completely relaxed.
The food is incredible – the chef, Kevin, uses the best ingredients, all of which are sourced locally, to produce the most delicious meals. The local fish, meat and vegetables are phenomenally good – guests were having discussions about rocket salad – it was really that good! And then there was afternoon tea with all their wonderful home baking -- the cakes are great!
And to top it off, they did a mean barbeque up in the “Bothie” on our Sunday night (it’s like a shack in the middle of no where beside a loch – oozes atmosphere). This was just fabulous – incredible grilled langoustine, the most amazing crab cakes (we don’t like crab cakes, but we loved these), homemade chili sausages… wow!! Oh, and margueritas and whisky galore!
They also organized activities for guests, from shooting to RIB rides to see puffins (Rigid Inflatable Boat!), providing all the gear for all the guests – Barbour jackets, wellies, sweaters, the works! Ackergill do not forget a thing, it is quite remarkable.
They were equally fantastic with children as well as the adults, providing a host of activities for them too, pony rides, falconry exhibition, as well as hot chocolate tastings!! Nannies were available for parents requiring a bit of time off too – they were just lovely as well and incredibly competent.
The bedrooms are simply awesome. They are all pretty huge, some bigger than others – all with fabulous views over to the beach, the bleaching lawn, or the crashing North Sea. They have been lovingly decorated with personal touches, all with a different feel and all lacking any stuffiness.
Everyone commented continually over the weekend at how amazing the place was, at how kind and accommodating the staff was and finally what a blissful weekend they had. All thanks to the wonderful team at Ackergill Tower, and in particular, John and Arlette Bannister, Jo McCallum, and Lisa Coghill.
